I did the SAHM gig for nearly five years. I just recently returned to work this last February and I don’t know how I ever stayed at home for so long. I actually get to talk to adults now! And y’know, I didn’t get much writing done in the midst of feeding the kids and housework, laundry, etc., etc. Of course, I’m great about making excuses. But I think I’m more productive now that I have a job than I was when I stayed at home all day.:crazy2:

Oooh! I love summers when I can write my brains out. I want to be a SAHM when the kids are IN SCHOOL. Then there will be freedom! And much rejoicing in the land…

24 more days till summer break. I am soooo ready. Making enough money from writing to stay home and do it full time? I LOVE that goal.

well, I did the SAHM thing when my kids were little. Man, that was exhausting! But I was grateful that I was able to do it. But once they were all in school, I went back to work.

Now when I even think about cutting back, I get a reality check by thinking about putting our 5 kids through college… 3 of them will be there at the same time :shock: :shock: :shock:

Rene’s right. You should be careful what you wish for. If not laid off (which is probably unlikely in your case ), you could be like me and be forced to go on disability. While I like the staying home part, the pain, exhaustion, and lack of brain is Not Fun.

Be careful what you wish for, it may come true. I got laid off in Nov. 2001. I stayed home for a few months convinced I was going to write like a crazed demon. By May of ’02 I was ready to go back to work just to get out of the house. My writing had ceased to exist. My time was taken up with childcare and housecleaning. Then I discovered I was pregnant, so the job hunt ended before it began.

So now I am an SAHM and my husband and I have decided that is the way to go for now. My writing is finally getting back to where it was before I started staying home.

I remember when I worked. My friends and I would shop at Target on our lunch hours and watch the SAHM’s with their kids and we were so jealous. Now, boy, I do miss those days.
