A couch by any other name…

by Kay~Kacey on 7/7/2005

Couch. Sofa. Danvenport. (my grandfather called it that  )

I HATE my couch. Have for 20 years! And it’s going away this year. I’m blessed with TWO sons who will be moving into their respective UNFURNISHED apartments at college this fall. The couch and love seat is SO outta here. I told the dh I don’t care if we sit ON THE FLOOR for 6 months or a year. The couch is GONE.

I also told the boys if they take the couch and love seat…it can’t come back home… (would you WANT a couch that had been in an apartment with 4 college age males??)

So I hate it because ALL the cushions come off. Seat cushions, back cushions, arm cushions:

Nasty horrible couch

It always looks like a bomb went off on it. Or they do this:

cushion hell

Stack the cushions around the room for backrests. I’ve spent 20 years straightening cushions and picking them back up off the floor.

The only thing I know about my new couch is that it won’t have even ONE DAMN CUSHION that’s unattached. I’m thinking about not even allowing accent throw pillows!

LOL! Enjoy your furniture shopping. The problem I have is finding that balance between a couch that gives adequate back support and one that’s comfortable. :coffee2:

I hate mine too. Wish I could shopping for some new furniture. Enjoy your shopping spree though.

The pillows on the floor picture looks just like my house. Every single night. GRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I have that same kind of cushion problem with both our couches. Ack! With two little boys, they’re always askew, and it sounds like it never gets better. :shakehead:

I bet I could beat all ugly couch stories though. The one my parents had when I was little (and growing up…and in high school) was vinyl. VINYL. And the print, which had kind of a texture because, well, vinyl does, was oranges, yellows and reds with a black background. Horrid. Wish I could find a picture to put on my blog. :crazy2:

LOL! Kacey, I was griping about this about 10 minutes ago. “Why do I have to pick up the couch pillows 5 times a day?” Blah, blah, blah… Hope you get a cool one with cushions bolted in. 😆

Only if you had a certified hazmat team go over it about five times — and then I’d only think about it.

I do envy you the possiblity of a new couch; I desperately want one and I don’t think we’ll be getting one any time soon — and I don’t have teenagers to pawn the old one off on.

I haven’t thought of the word Davenport in years. I wonder where that comes from. I love my couch. Just got it. My best friend picked it out for me. Never thought I could be in love with a sofa.

Happy sofa shopping! And, uh, no, I wouldn’t want it back after it’s been living with four college boys either. 😆

Ugh. I hate couches where the cushions don’t stay put. Ours do that, but fortunately, the kids have decided to destroy the downstairs den couch instead.:crazy2:

Our couch pillows are allows in the way. It drives me crazy. But dh wanted them and so . . . we got them.:wallbash:

I think I had that couch one time. Scary flashback because I, too, had the cushion issue.

Good luck shopping! Post pics 🙂
