computer jealousy

as an aside…I have been Opening The File and banging away at my proposal…

Now, back to the topic at hand. I see a lot of comments on blogs and the lists about writers hiding out on their computer. That their dh or parents or roommates or kids tell them that they spend too much time on the computer. Or, worse yet, they are accused of messing around on the computer when they are really writing. Like it’s not really work or something.

Or I see comments like “I better get off because the dh doesn’t like me on the computer so much.”

So, is that your life? Do you have to limit your computer time because someone else disapproves? Or are you free to spend whatever time you want?

For the record, my dh never begrudges me my writing time. Not even when he catches me on a blog hop or email break when I’m supposed to be writing…

I used to have a man in my life…ex man  who would begrudge my computer time. And never value my writing time because I hadn’t sold yet. Well, I still have sold, but my wonderful dh is still very, very supportive of my writing and the time I spend at it.

So, what’s your situation like? Do you have to get off the computer when dh is home? Limit your time? Hide your time? Or do you have a good support system at home?

Fear of Opening the File

So do you ever have “fear of opening the file”? Amy posted a comment on my last post about sometimes getting up way early (sorry about the insomnia, Amy :wallbash: sucks, sometimes, doesn’t it?) And said she could get a lot done then :typing: …if she actually opened the file

What’s up with that? I SO have that problem. Quite often. I have this momentary panic about actually opening the file and sitting down and writing. I can think of a million things that HAVE to be done. You know, like laundry, pay bills, email, blog hop. Things that definately HAVE to be done RIGHT NOW.

I’m not sure what I’m afraid of. That I’ll read what I’ve written and it will suck? That I won’t be able to think of the next scene? That people the world over are sitting and talking behind my back about how terrible my writing is and won’t that poor woman ever just give it up?

I often use rewards okay, okay, out right BRIBES to get myself to open the damn file. “If you open the file and write 250 words, you can have a cookie.” “If you just write two paragraphs you can blog hop to two blogs.” “If you open the damn file, you don’t even have to write until you finish your cup of coffee.” :coffee:

I’m worse than a two year old…:mad2:

So do you have fear of opening the file…and what tricks SMART IDEAS do you use to over come the hesitation. Or are you just one of those organized, determined people who can just sit down and say, ready, set go.

Give you the time of day

So, I’m curious. What time of day is your best writing time? Most creative?

I think my best time to write is about 9:00 am. Now I’m an early morning person and have been up for hours by then, but that seems to be when my mind kicks into creative gear. Unfortunately, most days of the week…I’m sitting at work at the pesky day job at 9:00 am. So I write in my non-prime time. Earlier morning. After work. Lunch times aren’t bad if I get enough time. I do write around 9:00 am on weekends and any days off. I get so much more done then.

So when is your most creative time, and do you get to use it? Or do you just have to grab time when you can find it?
