Does this happen to you?

by Kay~Kacey on 10/12/2005

So I’ve been struggling and struggling with my proposal. I can’t get anything right in it. Truthfully? It sucks. :mad2: So yesterday I decide to take a :bath: and wallow in self pity…So I was leafing through magazines and BAM a great idea came to me. Different. Twisty. So I think, cool. Maybe my muse hasn’t deserted me. Then BAM, another idea. Okay, I was almost spooked then. Then a THIRD idea came. By then I was truly freaked and got out of the tub 😯 So as I was getting dressed and picking up my room, a FOURTH idea burst into my head.

What was that all about?? :wtf: I usually have to think and think and wallow in a story. But here were 4 good marketable ideas in like 30 minutes. (okay, an hour…I took a very long bath). So I hurried downstairs and wrote out all the details I know for all 4 stories. :typing: I’m going to start working on one of them today. Maybe my muse was trying to show me I was forcing a story (the old proposal) I didn’t love just because it would fit the line I was targetting???

Do you ever give up on something after hammering on it for a month because your heart just isn’t into the story? I’m really excited about my new ideas and will pick one of them to write on. I usually don’t let myself quit on something I’ve started, but I’ve come to the realization that my proposal just wasn’t working, and that’s why I was having so much trouble with it.

I wonder what my muse looks like? Maybe a little sprite that sits on my shoulder, dressed in a red tinkerbellish outfit nagging me, pushing me, taunting me…and sometimes hiding from me…

Congrats, Kacey! Wow, I never get hit with multiple ideas. Yeah, if my heart is not in a story, it clogs the creativity. Good luck with those ideas!

My muse likes the bathtub, too! :bath:

Congrats on the 4(!!) ideas!!! And good for you on giving up. It’s SO hard to do it (and even know when it’s time).

LauraP October 12, 2005 at 2:28 pm

Yes! Things are looking up already!

Melissa October 12, 2005 at 4:10 pm

That is great news, Kacey! I love it when ideas hit you like that. Makes it worth all the angst we go through. :mad2:

*green with envy*

I’ve had that totally-unexcited-by-a-story thing happen, but I couldn’t bring myself to set it aside. Instead, I shook it up and changed about 65% of what I had. I like it MUCH better now. It was painful, but I also think abandoning an idea is painful. Like you, ideas are hard to come by in my head.

Congrats on your four!!!

Congrats on the ideas! Love it when that happens. My muse likes it when I drive the car long distances. Makes it hard to write down the ideas though.

Suzanne October 12, 2005 at 4:50 pm

That’s great! Yay!

Rene October 12, 2005 at 5:55 pm

Yes, that happens to me all the time, usually when I have announced to the world I am no longer a writer.

Glad it happened to you. Can you send some vibes my way?

Danica October 12, 2005 at 6:06 pm

Congrats on the new ideas!

As for giving up on ideas… I have um, files upon files of them…

Gina October 12, 2005 at 6:29 pm

I always seem to get my best ideas in the shower too.

Michelle October 13, 2005 at 6:13 am

WTG on the multiple ideas! You rock! Now go write one. 🙂

Excellent news on the new ideas!

I always try and have a few going on, that way I don’t get stuck. I don’t feel bad abandoning them because I do always end up going back to them at some point. Maybe your other proposal, the one you were struggling with, just wasn’t cooked enough yet.

Tori October 13, 2005 at 12:38 pm

I love it when the bathtub/shower does its thing in the writing inspiration arena. 🙂

Teresa October 14, 2005 at 5:53 pm

:beer:Yay on the ideas! That’s awesome! Lately I’ve been having issues that keep poping up in my way.:cursing:

Olga October 15, 2005 at 4:32 pm

Wow, 4 great ideas in a row? Sometimes I get ideas while in the shower, but not so many! Hmm, maybe I should take a long bath instead? Congrats on the ideas, Kacey!

Mary October 16, 2005 at 8:11 am

I get ideas at weird times. Usually after I have thought about it at night and then when I wake up, an idea comes through.

LoryKC October 16, 2005 at 4:54 pm

Congrats!!! That’s awesome!
I do get more ideas in the bathtub and the treadmill…and yet, I have not visited either one in days! Thank you for the “lightbulb moment!”:useyourhead:
(I have showered. I’m not offensive, just uninspired)
🙄

Margery October 18, 2005 at 5:30 am

Yay on the new ideas, Kacey. I get my ideas on the treadmill. At least it takes the boredom away when I can daydream while I’m getting some exercise.

Mary October 19, 2005 at 7:07 am

Hey Kacey, how you doing? Better I hope.
Mary
