revising

okay, I have a confession. I have something that drives me NUTS… :crazy2:

I have to revise on hard copy. Yes, printed out. Double spaced. I just cannot revise from the computer screen. Oh, I go over what I’ve written the day before to get me back into the story, and catch things there. But real revisions? Must be on paper. Double spaced.

And non of this printing out landscape two pages per page “book style” either. Tried that. Doesn’t work.

Printed out. Double spaced.

Seems like such a waste of paper and ink. Even if I use up scrap paper that has stuff on the other side.

Printed out. Double spaced.

I KNOW. I’ve tried every other more economical way to revise. Just doesn’t work for me. So today I’m going through my double spaced synopsis and making revisions. Then on to the first two chapters or so if I have time.

I should really learn to be a more flexible writer… :coffee2: So how do you revise? On the computer? :typing: Print out SINGE spaced–lucky you!

My brain hurts

ever do so much THINKING about your story that you know you’re going to scream :cursing: or throw yourself off the nearest cliff…or drink yourself senseless??? I wrote my synopsis for my proposal this week. Yes, scary enough thought there. But I kept trying to nail down internal conflicts and emotional arcs and external conflicts and am I showing the character’s growth???

:wtf: Sometimes the actual details of nailing all this down in the synopsis makes me INSANE a little crazy :crazy2:

Do you try to nail down all of that when you’re writing your synopsis. Do you write your synopsis after the book is done? After a few chapters? Before you start writing anything else???

This week, for my frustration entertainment…I get to revise the synopsis and cut out about 2-3 pages from it

Brainstorming

okay, following on with my thoughts. Walking on a beach is great for brainstorming! You can daydream about your book. You can daydream about your future and what you want it to be. Similar to Amy’s driving a car is great for brainstorming theory.

I’m a GREAT believer in driving and brainstorming. Do some of my best brainstorming when I drive. ( And I don’t always have a beach to walk on  )

I have decided that I should be able to go to the beach a couple of times of year just to walk along the beach and stare at the waves and brainstorm and think. Do some creative visualization. Mindlessly pick up shells. Brainstorm some more. Not sure how to break that news to my dh though…

Where do you do your best brainstorming? Out walking? In the tub (that’s a good one for me too). In the morning? In the middle of the night :biteme: (where is my damn pen!!)
