here is one where a bunch of us went out to dinner before the Ritas. Note to self….go out earlier next year so we have more than five minutes to get ready for the Ritas and get a seat. So I met this amazing woman at National. Karen Schwartz. Who sold after 27 years of writing.:beer: Now, those of you who know me, know I’ve been writing a long time. Long time. (keep meaning to email RWA and find out when I joined. 1990? maybe?) And I haven’t sold. Along with that goes the questions “do I suck at this?” “why HER and not ME?” “Am I ever going to sell?” etc. etc. :blah:
Okay, so I admit there were a few lean writing years in the middle of that time, but mostly I’ve been writing. And kick ass seriously again the last 4 years or so.
So when Karen sat across from me (in a bar, yes, why do you ask) and told me her story, I was greatly inspired. She was up for the Golden Heart. And recently sold to Avon. She has a cool website.
So for those of us who have been at it for quite awhile. Get close but no cigar. Here’s to Karen, with her inspiring story. And I’ll be out buying CLAIMING THE COURTESAN in April of 07. Karen, here’s to you!

It sure takes me longer to recover from RWA Nationals than it used too…I’m STILL exhausted!!
Had a great time! Roomed with Michelle Willingham who had good news everytime I saw her. That was fun! Saw tons of friends. Met new people. Sat next to Tess Harrison for a bit at the sports bar on Wednesday, and didn’t put two and two together until later that evening. :crazy2: Sat at the Ritas with Jan and Amy We all agreed that the Ritas go better with drinks…what’s up with them not having a cash bar outside the Ritas this year??? The nearest bar was like a bazillion floors up on those spooky escalators. (see Stephanie’s Aug 1 post at Writeminded)
Okay, and lest you think we’re obsessed with drinking… what is UP with the bars there not opening until 4 pm??? At the Marriot, the Ritz, and the Hilton??? Do they not know how much money they were throwing away??? RWA writers can drink with the best of them!!
Speaking of which…the Mojitos were the BEST. The bar actually ran out of mint to make them by the last day of conference…
