well, it looks like my mom isn’t the only one who gives ornaments every year It really is a cool tradition.

Melissa, our tree was in the dining room…which can be closed off totally. Precisely to keep the cats out of it!

My MIL gives handmade ornaments every year too. Unpacking & packing them – and all those other memories tangled up in the the traditions and bits and pieces we use during the holidays and sometimes every day — it’s good to have these well-loved things.

I usually leave the decorations up through “Little Christmas”–January 6. So I planned to take them down yesterday but only managed to take down the outdoor decorations (which weren’t much)!
So today (hopefully) is the day!

My mother-in-law has given my kids dated ornaments every year except this one (my FIL is ill this year) so I made sure they each had one in their stocking this year. The collection is growing rapidly!

I took down the Christmas tree two days after Christmas – not by choice, since I usually leave it up until after New Year’s. But the cats had destroyed it and I couldn’t bear to fix it AGAIN just to leave it up for a few more days.
I think I still have the Christmas card display out, and some greenery on the railings on the front porch, but other than that, everything is put away.

We give each child an ornament every year, and by the time they’re old enough to have their own houses, they’ll have their Christmas ornaments, like your sons.
