The Perfect Knife

by Kacey

Well, that’s a kind of violent way to start a post, now isn’t it? The perfect knife? Well, we discussed my addiction to the softest sheets in the world. Now we’ll talk about my affinity for really good kitchen knives. Here is my favorite:
Favorite Knife It’s the perfect weight. It fits in my hand. I use it for almost everything. In case any of the five boys are reading this, let me remind them…These knives to NOT go into the dishwasher.

That knife belongs to this set of Henckel knives.

I love these knives. We only get the “two guy” Henckel knives. See the two guys on the block? There are two guys on the knives too. Don’t know what that mean, but I know that means they are better than the one guy knives from Henckel.
Knife Sharpener And this is the magic thing that SuperGuy uses to make sure my knives are razor sharp. Not sure what he does with it exactly, but presto, like magic, the knives are all sharp again after he sits down with the magic knife thingie for a bit.

I’m telling you, don’t mess with me and my knives. And boys, if you’re reading this, I MEAN IT. Do NOT put the knives in the dishwasher!! Sometimes a mother has to repeat herself on the important life lessons…

Do you have any kitchen things you just can’t live without? Are you addicted do you like good kitchen knives?

  1. I have a similar set of the two guy knives and a scary rack of cleavers. I have a favorite for each purpose — the best bread knife, best peeler, best tomato slicer, best cleaver, best skinning knife, etc.

  2. I have this one pairing knife that I would cry if I lost. Not even a name brand. Old. But man can it cut!!

The one kitchen item I could not live without is my crock pot. I love it! Life is too busy - if I didn’t have a crock pot, my family wouldn’t eat.

  3. I’ve never had a really good set of knives. But I could really go for some decent steak knives. Cutting meat can be so difficult with dull knives.

  4. I agree, there is nothing better than a good kitchen knife. It makes every kitchen chore so much easier to deal with.

  5. My f avorite knife looks almost like that. A couple of months ago I sharpened it–with a block that looks somewhat like yours– and I was slicking lettuce AND watching Oprah and I sliced the corner of my finger off, fingernail and all. Just a tiny bit but it bled and bled. One of the joys of a really sharp knife. I’ve been more careful since.

And my Henckel knife is only the one man variety. I bought one for a gift the other day and thought, “Oh boy, a Henckel for only $15.” I looked. He is the one guy one too. Now, do I give it, knowing it’s inferior, or not?
