Simple Things in Life

Do you ever have one of those days where introspection comes and just bangs you over the head? Where it seems like life is just very in focus. When you’re really in the moment? The colors are brighter? The smells sharper? You hear musics without having the radio on? (okay, that was kind of stretching it, but do you know what I mean?) I find I have more of these days as I get older.

Today was a snow day. Well, an ice day really. SuperGuy is stranded out of town. I had the house to myself. I wrote. Took pictures. Read a whole lot of a Scott Kelby book on correcting digital photography. I took a nap. I sat and sipped wine. And I had a weird need to call my mother.

It’s one of those days that if my boys were here I’d kind of hang on them and hug them, and stroke their hair. And they’d roll their eyes at me and indulge me because they’re good like that.

You ever have days where it just seems like life is rushing by so fast? That just the other day you had a baby in your arms and now you don’t know where the hours, days, weeks and years went?

And While I was contemplating the big questions in life. Wondering where my life is headed. Enjoying the simple things in life. I did question some of the more mundane questions of life…like why the cats always find the clean laundry basket to nap in??

Oh, hahahaha!

I was not expecting the cat picture. Am sitting here giggling.

I’ve got a few Scott Kelby books, too. I like the way he writes, the simplicity of his teaching. And you know, P-Dub learned this way, too. (From reading Scott Kelby books). I think she’s going to be just as good, in her own way. Nice post.

We’re having our first snow day today in Maryland. It’s raining ice. Not men. I don’t know why I said that. I’m not fully awake. I know I like coming to your site every day. I think we feel the same way sometimes. I also cannot believe how many years have gone by and now my sons are grown. Too bad I don’t have any wine in the house to sip later . . .

I love those types of days. Everything is just clearer – even when you look at nature. It’s just more in focus for some reason.

My kitties fortunately have not napped on the clean laundry, but give them time…

I need one of those days… and soon.

Love the cat picture – thanks for the smile.

What a great post. I 🙄 🙄 am getting reminders to stop and smell the flowers all over the place today. And those cats are too funny…my cat Noelle is white, and she likes to burrow under my pant rod in the closet. They are mostly black. Well they used to be black. 🙄

Our ice storm was considerably less icy than predicted. We did get some freezing rain but then the temps creeped up above freezing.

Love the cat picture!

And, yes, I’m getting darn tired of life flying by!

 I love it! You have no idea how much I love it!!!!

My cats do the SAME thing. It used to drive me crazy, now it’s just a part of life. What we won’t do for our pets. LOL

I love the sky in your photo, and I love a day like you describe. Did you call your mother?

Kacey February 22, 2008 at 3:26 pm

Kate–i prefer it to rain men than ice…and now I can’t get that song out of my head!

Melissa…give it time, I’m sure the kitties will be in the clean laundry. Never the dirty stuff, only clean and folded.

Misty, hope you do get a day like that soon.

Mental Pause Mama, we got dark cats because SuperGuy said no white cat hair on his work slacks.

Tori, time is rushing by, isn’t it?

FreeFromItAll–what is it with the cats and laundry??

Jeannelle–yes, I called my mother. I never resist when I feel the urge to call her.

Or why my cats always liked to curl up on my head at night and “play the organ” in my hair. 🙂

Thanks for visiting my blog!

That’s where my cats always are….on top of the clean laundry!

Kaye February 23, 2008 at 12:44 pm

I have a black cat too. And you are right– it’s the clean clothes they like to sleep on. But he also likes to sleep on one of my dirty shirts too. Go figure.

Your cats are gorgeous. My cat always wants to sleep in the laundry basket too. It’s most vexing!
