The Story of Pink and Green

by Kacey

Once upon a time… no, wait…it’s not a fairy tale exactly. But it’s the story of the Black Beasts. My kitties. Pink and Green.

pink and green the kitties
Yes, the infamous Pink and Green. Why, yes, their collars do match their names. Or should we say that their names match their collars? Well, if you’re new to my blog, you’re probably wondering why the silly names? Why names cats after their collar color? Well, that would be a good question that any sane person would ask.

Well, back to the beginning of the story…I’ve always had a cat or two. Back in August ‘05 my cat, Sunny, died. I’d had Sunny for about 18 years. Now, when I married SuperGuy he wasn’t much of a cat person. But he knew from the start that Sunny was here to stay. But after Sunny died, I was thinking I would never have another cat, ’cause, you know, SuperGuy didn’t really like cats…

drowsy kitties

Then about a month later, SuperGuy says to me. “How about we go get you another cat.” I know, he’s the best guy ever! So SuperGuy and the Impish One and I go to the Humane Society. SuperGuy insists we need a black cat so it’s fur won’t show on his work pants. Whatever. I’m just happy to get another cat! So The Impish One and SuperGuy sit down on the floor in the “getting to know you” room at the Humane Society and have like 5 cats crawling all over them.

two new kittiesOf COURSE they can’t come to a decision about which of the black kitties has the best personality. You know where this is going, right? Well, of course you do, because you’ve seen my pics of both kitties. They said I –ME– that I should decide. Right, pick between the kitty my husband likes and the one my son likes. I don’t think so. Needless to say we came home with two kitties. That happen to have on a pink collar and a green collar.

We get home and ask all the boys, “So boys. What to you want to name them?”

Steak and Shake
Home and Depot
Nasty guy terms I can’t even sayThink body parts.
TC and TOC (The Cat and The Other Cat)

(I could probably have lived with TC and TOC…) But for week the boys persisted in calling them by body parts… Okay, well disguised names for body parts, but still I could NOT take them to the vet and have them listed by those names!!! What would the vet think? What would my MOTHER think?? (well, she might not have caught on…)

kitty on shoulder

Pink, when a littly kitty, on The Geeky One’s shoulder. While The Geeky One is on the cell phone. The boys are ALWAYS on the cell phone!

So after awhile, they kept being called Pink and Green after their collar colors. It kind of stuck, you know? Do you have any strange names for your pets?

  1. When we had cats when I was young, we were very practical about their names. The pregnant callico cat that adopted US, we named Patches. Her kittens included Ruby (a red cat), Midnight (a black cat), Dusty (a tan cat), Tiger (a striped cat), and Misty (a gray cat).

As adults, we do have dog names on the more unusual side. The family dogs include Cassiopia, Megabyte, and Terabyte Oriana.

  2. Wow! I’d forgotten how the cats got their names.

We’ve only ever had one cat. It’s name was J.J. for some unknown (or long forgotten) reason. We didn’t have it long, though, because it was the Meanest Cat Ever.

  3. I think they are appropriate and cute names. We once had a dog that I allowed my then 5 year old son to name. He chose “cutie pie”. Ok, no big deal until one day I opened our front door and yelled for cutie pie to come inside. That’s when I noticed a nice looking man walking down the street giving me the strangest looks. Immediately after we renamed cutie pie to CP for short.

  4. Oh they are darling!!!!!!!!!

    I’ve had:
Wally (don’t ask how I got THAT name LOL)

    Chelsey (no idea either)

Clarabella - someone said the name and I fell head over heels for it and knew my “next” cat (now referred to as Crabby Clarabella) would be named that

Abendigo - cuz she came through the firey furnace (neglect) and didn’t even smell like smoke (she’s GORGEOUS) when she came out on the other side!!

  5. Love it! Those are some handsome boys you got there…Our cat Noelle is white and we adopted her at Christmas. Do the math on that one. I hope you are having a nice journey this Easter Sunday

  6. I have a cat.
    She is black.
    My husband forgets her name.
    So we call her Blackie.
    Everybody’s happy.
Now the cat has a new name.

    :coffee:

  7. Adorable kitties!

How cool that SuperGuy converted to Cat-olicism for you! ;p

I wasn’t able to bring my cats to Italy with me, alas, but they are with a good pal.

  8. Cute story! Living in an apartment, we have only had a few fish. Smiley was our betta, and we have a another fish named oreo…

  9. There is a story behind Kumo, our dog’s name. But his name means “Bear” in Japanese. It fit him perfectly.

The bird is Peek-a-Boo. When we first got him, he used to duck and it looked as if he was playing peek-a-boo with my daughter. The name stuck.

    :)

  10. Funny. I was never, ever a cat person. I was always allergic. But then we had a mouse problem and brought our garage cat indoors. I hated it at first, but after she caught some mice and curled up on my lap a few times, I grew used to her. And when she had babies, we kept two of them. Now I’m no longer allergic and I just adore all three of them! Our black one is named Slick; his sister is multi-colored and named Gretchen.

  11. That was such a nice story of how you got your two cats and how your family came up with the names!
