One thing life has taught me: if you are interested, you never have to look for new interests. They come to you! When you are genuinely interested in one thing, it will always lead to something else. ~~Eleanor Roosevelt.
It’s strange how life leads us in new directions. I started writing a novel, and discovered the online world of bulletin boards (back in DOS days. GEnie online service) then email lists. From my writing I made great friends. Quite a few of us started blogging about our writing. Which led me to learning html, php, Wordpress, web design. Which, eventually led me to expand my blog to writing about my life. Which led me to wanting to learn more about photography to put more pictures on my blog. I hadn’t shot much since college days. I moved to a DSLR camera. (best thing to ever happen to photography!)
The quote by Eleanor Roosevelt is so true. If you get interested in something, it leads to something else, and something else. I think I’ll never stop learning about new things. I love learning new things.
Do you have one of those trails of interests that led you to blogging? Or Photography? Or writing? Or something else? Want to share with us?
(Last chance to vote for March Photo of the Month. I’m going to close down voting on Sunday.)

Photography led me to blogging. I’d heard there were things called blogs out there, but had no idea how many!! I read one blog and it was Pioneer Woman. I read her for a year, every single day. And I wrote to my 3 sisters almost every single day. I’d always include my latest photos at the end of every e-mail and although they were nice, it was a boring way to showcase them. So I started a blog, mainly for my sisters and family. And I opened it up to the public last December. And it went from there. Not that it’s gone far! So I’d have to say that it was Photography that led me here.
Hey, I am really interested in WordPress. What I’m thinking of doing is making sure everything transfers first and putting some feelers out there. I could even do a mock-up blog and transfer it over but that would be a lot of work.
I’ll see how I’m feeling after I try to get some of this housekeeping done with my bum knee.
Blogging has led me to look around for themes to take photographs of, it really make me focus.
I like your paperweight with the reflection.
For me, blogging has made me more interested in learning about photography. I just cannot believe it took me so long to get here…
What an interesting tale of your trail to blogging! I wish mine were half that interesting. lol
LOVE the glass ball. I’d be rolling that thing in the palm of my hand while thinking all the time. And I’d love to know what the key is for.
Very nice!
Kate, let me know if I can help with any Wordpress set up questions.
Starnitesky, blogging has made me look around and think about photo ops too. “Hey, I should shoot that”.
MPM, well, your beach drink shot was fabulous!
Karen, I do play with the ball when I’m at my desk and thinking. The key is from a collection of old skeleton keys my grandfather had. Another fiddle with thing on my desk.
My interests constantly evolve from one another. Gardening led to taking photos which led to DSLR and emptying my bank account.
—– Several interests led me to blogging —–
My military career led me to the web skills needed to have a personal website.
My strong parenting philosophy led me to the desire to actually building a personal website.
My “camera happy” attitude led to blogging as well.
My desire to share my faith led me to blogging.
—– But blogging has led me in new directions as well —–
Blogging has led me to want to learn more about photography.
Blogging has led me to want to journal my life for my kids. Without the day-to-day accountability of blogging, my great-great-great(etc) grandkids would not know what life was like for one of their ancestors.
Blogging has led me to look at life with new eyes.
Blogging has led to want to want to keep up on my skills (by learning WordPress, Nucleus, etc.).
Blogging has led me to meet and want to connect with others around the world.
Blogging has led me to want to learn to sew.
Blogging has led me to a deeper faith as I read others’ testimonies.
OT: Kate, I can help get you going on a blog as well. I have 10+ blogs I’ve set for others and can send you referral links to show what I have done. I’ve used Nucleus & WordPress. Give me a holler if you’d like help!
Gorgeous photo! I started with an interest in photography which led me to flickr, then I started writing bits and pieces to go with my photos, then I found a writing group and finally started a blog. It has been a fun journey!
Beautiful picture and spot on the week’s theme!
Have a great weekend.
GEnie RomEx rocks! I was so sad to see it go.
As far as finding new interests: it’s amazing how one thing, one decision, one question, finding one answer can set off a chain reaction that leads to amazing stuff. I’ve always been interested in photography and scrapbooking, and now in the digital age, I’m learning about all sorts of ways to do that digitally. I’m taking classes that have me meeting new people, learning new things and are sending me down new and exciting roads.
Gosh, I miss GEnie so much! Those were the Good Old Days! Then again, these are the Good New Days.
Menopasue Issues led me to blogging.. blogging has led me to discover other amazing , talented, ingenious, funny, caring , inspiring, thoughtful, busy, overwhelmed and beautiful ladies who share a little bit of their lives… and I’m starting to get the photography bug but I am soooo amateur.
Thanks so much for stopping by to visit my blog! I hope you’ll visit again. Love the photo of the glass ball.

Gorgeous photo!
I love your photo! That reflection is fantastic.
Wow…….many interests led you to blogging…….blogging is leading me to many interests. I started blogging because I wanted to write stories about my experiences. I blogged for a year before posting any photos.
A friend introduced me to Flickr, which I became addicted to immediately…
The same friend convinced me to blog to talk about the move Hubs and I had just made…
That lead me to discovering you, my friends, and your blogs…
That lead me to wanting to share my writing…
and then photography became a serious passion, so I wanted to share my photos…
That lead me to realize I want to be a photographer…
I also realized I wanted to create custom items for my blogging friends…
that lead me to creating custom headers, badges, and awards…
I’m eager to see where else I am led
