Home Again, Home Again

by Kacey

Wow, there really is no place like home. You know that feeling right as you’re opening the door? Like everything is just right?

front porch

It just smells like home. The faint scent of lavender as I walk to the front door. I love opening my red front door and pushing inside.

Pink and Green ignore me for a bit to punish me for leaving them alone. (If you missed the post of how Pink and Green got their names, click on the link…)

my imac

Finally back to my beloved iMac. I hate editing photos on my Macbook. Even though I love my Macbook, it’s just hard to know if I’m getting the photos too light or dark on my Macbook, and it really chugs along trying to run Photoshop. I’m back to my nice big screen and powerful computer. With my stuff surrounding me. Ah.

Back to my birds. They missed me. I know they did.

This time I got a wee bit obsessive…um, organized. That’s the word.As soon as we got home I unloaded the car, unpacked the suitcase…and hid the suitcases in the extra bedroom. I want no reminders of being gone. I just want to be home, home, home. Where everything feels right, and safe, and, well…the same. As much fun it is to share an apartment with my son part time. And of COURSE I’ll miss Charlie…but I’m so glad to be home. We’ve been gone way too much lately. Yes, Dorothy, there is no place like home. I truly think I’m a homebody at heart. How about you? Are you a homebody? An explorer? Something in between?

  1. For the most part I am a homebody. But the last few days I had rather be anywhere but here.

  2. I’m definitely a homebody, but I get a little explorer in me every once in a while.
Glad your home safe and had fun.

  3. I hate leaving home. My family almost has to make me go.
Then, I have so much fun exploring all the unfamiliar places, too. I don’t want to leave.
Then, I’m happy to be home.
I guess I’m somewhere in between.

  4. I love being at home. Every once in a while I like to go somewhere for a few days, but the whole time I am gone I miss home. :typing:

  5. I am a total homebody, and I know exactly how happy you are to be home! :typing:

  6. Love to travel, but at the end of the day, there’s truly no place like home.

Is that Mental Mama’s and my goldfinch??? We want him back!

  7. I love to go places and see new things, but you’re right. There really is no place like home.

  8. I am an inbetweener. I guess I’m basically a homebody, but I do love visiting new places. Right now, I’m smack in the middle of a very hot and humid Texas. I love visiting my family, and it’s my first time in the Lone Star State, but I really appreciate Virginia so much now!

BTW, I love your red door. I’ve had a can of red paint in my garage for over a year, waiting for my grand plan to paint my own front door. I need to do that this summer!

  9. Hey Kacey, About your macbook running slow and messing up the lighting on your photos… I’m sure your geeky son could tell you how to fix those things…but I had the same problem on my laptop. Of course the lighting does depend on how your monitor is turned, but also, Calibrating your monitor helps a lot. We ended up purchasing a thing called “Spyder Express” for the monitor for ours (tip from a pro photographer) and now the pics turn out much better. Also, while PS is a memory hog - you can add more memory to your macbook and it’ll run better.

And while I used to love to go-go-go…3 lil boys have helped me to see that being a homebody is not all that bad… I bet I’ll be like you someday ;)

  10. Total homebody. I like to travel, but I LOVE to come home. My husband finally got the message that we have to spend A LOT of time in our house, so we should make it feel like a vacation every day. And slowly, we’re getting there. By the end of the year, our home will be a holiday all the time.

  11. Wow, a lot of homebodies around here.

Ann, no, that is NOT your goldfinch. It’s mine!

Angie, I’ve already upgraded the memory on my MacBook. I’m geeky like that. It’s just that depending on what angle you put a laptop screen…especially with a glossy screen, it shows the photo lighter or darker. So you have “guess” what the correct angle is. I usually go check the photos on my desktop if I’d edited them on MacBook, to make sure none are too dark or too light.

  12. There are few things better than coming home to your familiar, safe haven after being away for some amount of time. It’s why when we go away on vacation, I have to have the house gleaming clean., That way, when I come home, it’s an even bigger treat.

Oh, I see George and Charlie have the same food & water bowls. I think we got ours at WalMart. Nice! Beautiful puppy.

    Welcome home!

  13. Welcome home, Kacey! Yes, I am definitely a honebody, too. Enjoy!
    xoxo,
    Mary

  14. HOME GIRL. My efforts to make my home comfortable keep me here.

  15. I am such a homebody, but I love a good road trip occasionally. Know why? Because then I appreciate home EVEN MORE. I don’t even really like to shop because I like to be home.

  16. I am an immediate unpacker myself - and welcome home!
