This is an amazing photograph. Why? Well, glad you asked that question! It’s not because it’s particularly technically great…composition wise or otherwise. I took this photo in the middle of the winter of the flag in our culdesac. When I took it, I thought that I should remember I have it for my 4th of July post. Now is that amazing? No. But the fact I remembered that I took this photo and actually used it today is amazing!
The 4th of July is an amazing day. It isn’t all about fireworks and BBQ’s in the backyard. It’s a celebration of our amazing country. Sometimes I think we take for granted all the truly wonderful things we have as citizens of the United States. The freedoms we have. Women can vote…everyone can vote for who they believe in. Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. The opportunities we have. Our country might not be perfect, but it’s a pretty great country to live in.
While I know I have readers from all over the world who live in great places too, I hope you can take a moment today and appreciate the advantages and good things about living in your countries too. So today I’m remembering to be thankful that I was born in the U. S. I’m also holding my nephew in my thoughts…off fighting in the war. May he find his way home safely soon.
Thoughtful post…all the best to your nephew.
MPM, I can always count on you to be up early and blog hopping! So do you sit and drink your coffee while you hop?
Happy 4th!!
This is my favorite holiday next to Christmas. God bless your nephew, I pray for all of their safe returns. I know what it’s like to have a loved one fighting overseas. I love this country and feel so blessed to live in it.
(Congratulations on remembering the pic.!)
Happy 4th! And am praying for a healthy and safe return for your nephew. See you at BlogHer! 🙂
Have a safe and happy holiday.
Sending prayers for your nephew’s safety and thanks for his service! I’ve been fortunate to stand in Thomas Jefferson’s home many times and in Independence Hall in the room where our Founding Fathers debated and signed the Declaration. I do not take this day lightly either, Kacey. We are fortunate!
Ever seen “1776?” It’s awesome and has great music. Rent it!
“We hold these truths to be self-evident…” Yes, we are a country of ideals — that is what we all celebrate today! Happy Independence Day, Kacey. 🙂
xoxo,
Mary
Amen. And God Speed to your nephew.
Well said, Kacey!!!
Love the picture, too!
Great picture.
Happy 4th!
Happy fourth of July to you. Indeed we are blessed to be here. Please share this letter of thanks with your nephew. I am truly grateful for his service.

That is really a nice picture. I find it amazing that you remembered too! I would probably take the picture and then put it in a file and not remember what file it was in!
Coming from a military family, I try to remember our heroes everyday, but I love spending the 4 th WITH them. I’ll keep your nephew (?sorry, forgetful today) in my thoughts and prayers. Hope your day is wonderful, and I agree, we truly do live in a wonderful country, thank you for reminding us!
Kacey
Hope you are enjoying the fourth with you and yours!
Hi Kacey – nice to meet you and thank you for stopping by my blog! It can be difficult living so far away – especially since I’ve had children – so this blogging thing is how I connect a bit more with home, and its fun!
I will be praying for your nephew too.
Jeana
Amen. May your nephew find his way safely home!
