As for vacuums…we have the Dyson Animal. Love it. It’s heavy, but the instant gratification of seeing all the crud in the canister is somewhat mesmerizing. If you get it at Bed, Bath, And Beyond, you can use their coupon for 20% off. It’s $500, so you’d save $100.

Happy searching! I searched forever and this was what we settled on. Been happy with it ever since.

How pathetic! I was intrigued by the title of your post. Its a sad day when a women gets excited about vaccuum cleaners.

I have very little carpet and with in the year it will all be gone. However, it I were going to stay with carpet, I would get a Dyson. My friends that have them swear by them.

I use a Roomba on my tile floors and it does a pretty good job on low pile carpet.

I love the Orecks. I have gotten 4 at thrift stores and have given 2 to my sons and kept one for upstairs, and one downstairs. They are terrific. Only problem is they have no attachments, but found 2 of their portables at thrift stores. Once upon a time I had cleaning servoce and they used the Orecks. Good luck.

I go through vacuums like crazy. I finally did tons of research (consumer reports, etc.) last year. The Hoover wind tunnel is actually ranked higher than the dysons for picking up stuff. BUT you have to replace the filters and belt periodically. Maybe that’s all yours needs. I take mine into a local vac. shop about once a year and they replace the filter, do whatever to it and it works GREAT. It might be worth trying.

I’ve owned a lot of vacuums. But what I really want is a Miele. Expensive? But, of course. Because anything else is a compromise.

I have the Dyson Animal Tamer. It is a MUST with 2 cats and a dog. I LOVE it and will probably never buy anything else besides a Dyson from now on!

I have had more vacuum cleaners in the 30 years of marriage than any 3 30 year marriages should have. Don’t know what it is with me and VC’s, but they last maybe 2 years for me. And I’ve had every brand known to man.
Whatever you decide on, your luck will surely be better than mine!

The best vacuum is the one with another human attached to it vacuuming your home. I’m just sayin’…

Hubs and I both grew up with Kirbys. For the first 15 years of our marriage, we had a Kirby (I know, everyone gripes about the price, but it took 15 years to kill that thing). We then got the Dyson something-or-other. It’s the Animal that isn’t the Animal (it’s the same vacuum, but less expensive because it’s missing one attachment).

Two words;

LOVE. IT.

I’ve had about 10 vacuums in my 17 years of marriage. We’ve killed nine of those, including our Kirby. I figure I get a year for each hundred dollars I spend on a vacuum cleaner. Granted, we’ve always had dogs with a triple coat of fur.

The Kirby lasted about eight years. All others, till our latest, a year or less. Our latest is the Dyson Animal and is going strong, and we now have TWO dogs and all carpet (in Florida I had tile).

The Dyson rocks. I got it on sale, with a 20% off coupon, so it was about $200 less than original. I figure I’ll get about five years out of it, based on the original price.

Kirby was a great machine, but cumbersome, heavy. The Dyson is light and works great.

Honestly? My experience says it’s all about the price and quality with these things. If you’ve used the Dyson and like it, get one!
