I see that everyone else has already informed you about High Occupancy lanes. We don't have them much here in Maryland, but on the way to my son's school down at UVa in Virginia, that's where I learned of these lanes.
Yes! I have friends like that. We went to high school with the husband and have been friends since we were teenagers. They live in Biloxi now and he runs one of the casinos.
We need to take a road trip when my husband gets better . . .

Yeah, I can see you've been enlightened by the other comments. Being a Texan, in San Antonio actually, and raising all boys, I can relate to your post. But one rule here that might be different about those HOV's - you cannot drive in them for a toll as a single person. Nope, you get a big fat ticket if you do. The HOV lanes are fairly new to Texas - Houston got'em first. Now the fastest way to get thru Houston: during rush hour on the HOV.

And we have both FM and RM's everywhere here.

Oh, HIgh Occupancy Vehicle lanes! I remember the first time I saw that sign in Oregon and I was confused. In California, they're just called Carpool Lanes.

I knew, at one time, what HOV stood for, but I could not for the life of me remember when I read this! Sad.

And why wouldn't there be Ranch to Market roads? It's Texas!

My husband and son in law are transplanted Texans and they always comment about "how much better the roads are in Texas!"

I envy those single drivers who can use the HOV lanes outside rush hours - DC was like that when I lived there. But here in Atlanta, oh, no - the HOV lanes are 24/7!!! Get caught in one at 3am with no passenger and you're dog meat. Ticketed. Fined! But I'm so used to it that when my daughter or sister visit I'll be halfway to our destination before I remember that I have 2 people in the car and can sail along in the HOV lane!

Anyway, glad you're having a caddyful time!!!

One of my very best friends - going on 40+ years - lives in Kansas City and whenever we see or call each other, we just pick up like there's been no time between calls/visits. It's just wonderful.

Well, we KNEW it was a carpool lane...which are called carpool lanes where I live and, you know, spelled out... CARPOOL LANE.

Ranch to market, huh?

I for one would have never guess HOV. I was going for something along the lines of hover craft?!? Go figure. Good luck on that texas drive to California. It is a long haul...did it last year...and 16 years before that. I am pretty sure I won't do it again for another 16 :crazy2:
