Best Cafe in Illinois

strawberry dessert

Seriously, SuperGuy and I stumbled upon the best cafe in Illinois when we were out antiquing. Ariston Cafe in Litchfield, IL.

Yes, that strawberry dessert tasted as delicious as it looked! My fav part of the lunch!

But I love the whole experience! From the authentic formica table tops…

Ariston CafeSo if you’re ever on highway 55 in Illinois,  near Litchfield (it’s on old route 66…remember the Historic Route 66 sign I took a photo of?) …make a side trip into town and have the strawberry dessert at Ariston cafe…and anything else on the menu that catches your eye. Yum.

As an aside…if anyone has the recipe for that strawberry dessert, hook me up! I’ve googled to no avail.

I believe I would like some of that pie for breakfast. But I’m in NW MO so I’ll have to settle for something else.

Tell me about that dessert – was it a cheesecake? It looks decadent!

she forgot to mention that the graham cracker crust had pecans in it. Wonderful addition that I wouldn’t have thought of. I did do well, I must admit. Diners, Drive ins, and dives- Guy Fiere, food network.

Annie, it was a cheese cake that didn’t really taste like cheese cake…I think.

I just read your blog about the strawberry dessert. I couldn’t really tell what the crust was but the photo looked similar to this dessert…..only difference is the filling is thicker.

Thanks for the link. I think I may need to experiment and see if I can come up with something similar. There were finely chopped pecans in the crust too. Very yummy.
