Vacation Internet the Hard Way

by Kay~Kacey on 3/24/2008

Okay, so we always make sure we have broadband at the places we stay at when we travel. Always double check. Which I did for this beach place too. But…we get here. No broadband hookup. Call the owner. He’s not sure where the hook up is. WHAT? So he sends out Bubba (seriously) too check on the hook up. Bubba says there should be a “green box”. All the houses here have a “green box”. Well, we have no stinking green box. :biteme:

Pretend I inserted a great photo here.

So the owner is supposed to call the telephone company…on Monday, and have them come out and set us up. Yeah, right. Like the phone company will be right out here.

So I try and steal borrow someone’s wireless. Which I’ve been known to do lots occasionally. Well, like in Palm Springs, for instance. 😉

Another pretend FANTASTIC beach shot here.

But here I’ve found a very weak wireless signal sitting on the floor in this tiny hallway to the kitchen. With the door to the house open. And no one opens the fridge. (have no idea why that cuts the signal off). Or out in our rented mini van, parked in the driveway, not under the house, in the front seat only, sitting sideways. Could I even make this stuff up?? The signals I can barely pick up have cool names though. Like Aqua Therapy, Beach Castle, Heritage Shores. Too bad they don’t have stronger signals. Thank goodness these people don’t secure them. But the signal is so weak, gosh darn it. Slower than dial up and keeps dropping out. You don’t even want to know how many tries this has taken me to make this post.

Insert breath taking sunrise photo here…well, another pretend one.

But I can’t get a good enough signal to upload photos…and this will probably take me like 10 minutes to get this one to post. Tomorrow the Geeky one and I will be off in search of a better connection. So I can show pics. Of how we celebrated our Easter. Those that look forward to my annual pics of our Easter “celebration” will not be disappointed. But we didn’t have the blow up bunny to aim for this year… Stay tuned.

How frustrating when it’s YOU! :wallbash: But oh how    when it’s someone else reading it.

That’s funny right there, I don’t care who ya are.

Give it a little of this :mad2: and a lot of that :cursing: hee hee.

Hope it gets better.

Good luck finding another connection! Can’t wait for the pictures!

That sure is frustrating. The beach we go to doesn’t even have wireless to borrow. But, a few of the coffee shops added it free last year, so hopefully we will be connected this year. Hope you are enjoying the beach!

What? The phone company hasn’t shown up? I can’t believe they would make anyone wait.

Have a good holiday.

Kacey March 24, 2008 at 10:38 am

yes, I’m supposed to sit around in the house for days waiting for that phone company… Like that is going to happen. So I sit out in the mini van. Sideways in the front seat. :wallbash: Ah well. Some people just don’t understand the whole blogging thing I guess. And too bad for The Geeky One trying to connect to work…

I, too, cannot believe the phone company is making you wait. Why, it’s unheard of!

The wireless problem sounds suckilicious, but at least you’re on the beach and the weather is excellent and you’re taking pics for us to look at, green with jealousy, back here in the cold!

I too am staying in lack-of-broadband purgatory. I’m in Chicago to be w/my m-i-l who’s in the hospital (story on the chronicler). I get wireless here with ease thanks to the complimentary hospital policy (THANK you Alexian Brothers!). At her home there are 6 wireless connections….5 with passwords and I guess the 6th one is a phantom because try as I might, cannot get on it! DANGIT!
You don’t know how much you miss something until you can’t have it. 😥 (sigh)

I’d be beside myself with fury!

“Pretend I inserted a great photo here”… OMG!! Pretend you see me snorting coffee out of my nose here.

Hey, look at that, It’s Wine-Thirty!! Time to zip it up and go home to a lovely Cab! Have a blast. Looking forward to the breath-taking sunrise photo!
