Happy Birthday to my favorite son.
Here he is as a young boy. Always, always wearing an extra large tshirt. Quite often on backwards…
He loved to fish as a young boy…probably because he always, always caught the biggest fish. (notice he’s still wearing the over sized shirt…)
He’s always had his own way of doing things…
Here he is, my engineer son, fascinated by my wheelo…
Here we were at Pat O’Brien’s on a trip to New Orleans…and if the truth be told, I believe this was our second time there in one day… Along with his adorable wife.
One of my favorite photos of Matt & Steph…because they are just. that. fun.
Happy Birthday, Mattie. You are my favorite!

I thought I’d share some of the photos I took at Nichole Van’s Lighting Workshop that I went to in Houston a few weeks ago. Larger versions of the photos and a complete review is up over at my photography blog Kay Pickens St. Louis Photographer
This little model was so much fun to photograph! Can’t you just see her spunk?
She also had a bride/model for us to shoot. Loved learning how to use off camera flash to overpower the sun and get the subject lit as well as the bright blue sky.
Everyone brought their own lighting equipment, so you used your own equipment and set up your own shots.
We also worked with inside off camera flash work.
Nichole provided us with a wide variety of models, both children and adults.
We did day shoots and sunset and evening shoots. I learned so much.
I’m still practicing at home and I bought some more lights and modifiers that I’m working with. Later this week I’ll show you a full sun off camera shoot that I did with SuperGuy… :hysterical:
Ah, yes. No house would be complete without a bird feeder! At least not a house of mine! It finally thawed enough for SuperGuy to dig a hole for the feeder post.
First step was finding out who he loaned the post hole digger to… I helped a lot with the digging stage. “A little more to the left. No, too far. Now come forward about a foot. No, not there!”
He got the post just the right height.
Then he rigged up the squirrel preventer thingie that slides onto the post to keep the squirrels away. Kind of.
And here we are…just waiting for some birds to find it…
Just add birds and camera and I’m all set to go.
