Please indulge me in a bit more of my obsession. Bird photos. Finches, to be exact this time.
Lots of finches. More of my obsession with bird photos over on my photography blog, Kay Pickens St. Louis photographer.
Hanging out trying to survive the winter.
Just like me. Trying to survive the winter.
They sing for me sometimes, like they are almost HAPPY in the winter! What’s up with that…
Well, excuse me for a bit. I need to go batten down the hatches. It appears they are forecasting the storm of the century for my area. Ice, sleet, freezing rain…then snow. Maybe lots and lots of snow. I keep clinging to my dream world that it will all just slip by us and it will be spring. Anyone care to join me in my fantasy life?

…of my birds in snow pics yet? Remember when we were trying to decide what this bird was? We decided it was an immature Red Winged Black Bird. Well look! He brought his friends!
Yep, that looks like a Red Winged Blackbird to me! I’ve never seen them around here before!
They were out in full force during the snowstorm! Here is the immature one again.
Showing off his red wing for us.
“Okay, I’m finished with the birds in snow series of photos. I promise, ” she lied.

Now, I always tell my boys, no wrestling in the house. They listen to me. Mostly…
I guess I’m going to have to make up house rules for the bird feeder. No fighting at the feeder. See this male Cardinal? He thought he was all that.
He decided to go after this sparrow…(I think that’s some kind of sparrowish bird? I’m not very good with my small brown birds.) But the little guy? He held his own!
Ha, the male cardinal, the bully, he got put in his place by the sparrow, and sheepishly climbed back to the other side of the feeder. See? You shouldn’t pick on the little guys!
The cardinal wasn’t the only bird out there fighting. The cowbird and a red winged black bird went after each other too. Notice the little guy is still hanging in there!
The moral of the story? Never underestimate the little guy! The end.
