Little Red Riding Hood

Learned so much at the Nichole Van Lighting Workshop. Had a great time. I finally feel like I’m getting a bit of a handle on Off Camera Flash work. We learned how to over power the sun with flashes, shot some at night, used different flashes and strobes and modifiers. Had a great time with the group of women at the workshop too. My photog friends Janet Power and Jolie Starrett were there too.

Nichole and her husband, Dave, are wonderful, genuine, fun people. She is an open book at the workshop. You can ask her anything and she’ll explain it to you…and explain it again if you don’t get it the first time. I’ll do a full review of the workshop over on my photography blog later this week, but I just wanted to say Hi, honey, I’m home!  Missed you guys. Also up this week…my fabulous recipe for Macaroni Grill bread. Stay tuned!

Terribly Behind

by Kay~Kacey on 8/11/2010

I don’t know how I get so terribly behind myself… Had a fabulous time in Salt Lake City at the Nichole Van Workshop. Well, except for the fact that it was on a dry campus… :help: It was a $12 taxi ride into town…so that would make for a pretty expense beer, now wouldn’t it? Anyway, I learned a ton. Seriously. Best investment I’ve ever made into my photography. I’m going to do up a full review of the workshop on my photography blog as soon as I catch up with life. (oh, and I’m in the middle of overhauling my photography blog, so if it’s a mess, forgive me. Well, yes, that does feed into my terribly behind on life comment…but I digress…)

Here is my lovely friend, Janet Power.

nv-workshop-8037I know, doesn’t she just even look like she’d be a cool friend?

Then she took this fabulous photo of me. I just love this photo. Janet is a rockin’ photographer! If you live near Arroyo Grande, California and need photos, you should look her up!

Here are a couple I took from the workshop. I wish I would have had a wider angle lens for a few some of them!

This one would have been fantastic if the wind wouldn’t have blown the veil up into the white clouds so it kind of just gets lost. :mad2:

This girl was so cute! I love the dramatic lighting in this one.

This one cracked me up. I opened it to edit it…and noticed I got the bride model in the background. I kind of like the juxtaposition of the bride versus the young girl though!

Okay, I’ve got to get my head back into the real world. Maybe. Or maybe I’ll just have myself another beer and recover just a bit more…

Salt Lake City Here I Come

by Kay~Kacey on 8/5/2010

Well, I’m headed off to a photography workshop this weekend in Salt Lake City. The workshop is Life as Art Professional Workshop by Nicole Van. I’ve heard nothing but raves about her workshops. I can’t wait!

I need a new camera bag for the occasion, of course… We already know about my bag obsession…

Isn’t it gorgeous?? I decided to get it because 1) SuperGuy isn’t going to be along to schlep bags for me :toofunny: 2) I need to bring my laptop, camera, 3 lenses, flash, etc. 3) I’m strong, but carrying all that through the airports just boggles my mind.

This bag is a rolling bag! Genius! And cute!! What’s not to love? Though I might need to flag down some hunky strong man to throw it in the overhead bin for me on the plane. That sucker is HEAVY all loaded up with camera gear and laptop!

Anyway, I’ll be back on Sunday. I’m sure I’ll have photos to share. You guys have fun this weekend. I’m excited to meet my photographer friend Janet Power in person for the first time! I’ve also never been to Salt Lake City. Just a fun, fun time all around!
