So I started out the day fairly cranky. I have a day of taxes ahead of me. W2’s for the business, figuring out quarterly taxes. And I have to pay bills. And juggle money. The coffee isn’t strong enough. My back hurts. I never got the laundry done this weekend. You can’t even thread your way through the garage to the trash cans to take out the trash. It’s a horrible day. I’ve already talked myself into it.
Then I glanced out the side window at the rosy sunrise sneaking across the horizon. The shades of pink brightening as I sit and watch the day come into focus.
I looked out the main window and I see this little guy waiting for his turn at the bird feeder. Watching me with a get-over-it-already expression
As the daylight awakens all the birds they start singing their various songs, welcoming the dawn and mocking my mood. I realize I’ve talked myself into a bad mood, and it’s just as easy to talk myself out of it. The coffee actually tastes pretty good today, now that I think about it. It’s going to be a great day. It’s all in how you look at it.
Isn’t it amazing how nature often “conspires” to get us out of a bad mood? I mean, really, how can you be in a foul mood when you see two squirrels chasing each other or watch your mamma kitty lick her nearly year-old daughter with such love and affection? 🙂
Melissa, you are so right. Nature has a way of just blasting us out of bad moods, doesn’t it?
The sunset has been reminding me to stop and take a deep breath, lately. (Evening is when I start to get cranky).
Love the cardinal pic! Back when we lived in Alaska, there was a squirrel in our backyard that used to make me feel so lazy! I’d complain that I couldn’t write with a toddler, couldn’t finish the dishes, couldn’t get anything done. Everytime I’d glance out the window though, this little guy was racing down the tree, across the yard, back up the tree and down again, over and over. I think he found a stash of espresso beans after he raided the bird feeder! Though I know he still accomplished more than I did, I seemed to get moving a little faster myself after watching him!
I absolutely love the cardinal picture!!!
That sunrise is soooo pretty!
Pretty sunrise, pretty birds – what a great start to the day.
