Custom Cherry Countertop

by Kay~Kacey on 10/12/2012

Okay, more construction photos! The cherry countertop we had made for the kitchen island is finished. Isn’t the wood pretty?

Actually, it was finished last week during the wedding craziness…so we had to make a quick run over to Columbia to deliver it. So, of course, to make it more complicated, SuperGuy rented a uhaul and brought over all his wood working equipment too. Because it appears we’re unable to ever do things the easy way.

Longer story…SuperGuy was going to make this countertop, ’cause, you know–he loves doing wood working. Picked out the wood. The wood guy dried the wood in his kiln and by the time it was dry, it was too late for SuperGuy to have time to make it. So, we had it made by the wood guy. SuperGuy was pretty disappointed that he didn’t get to make it.

SuperGuy will have to put another few coats of finish on it, but it looks so great!

Next post will be all about the chandeliers!!! So excited!!

The Farmhouse Table

by Kay~Kacey on 9/24/2012

So SuperGuy made me a custom made farmhouse table that will perfectly fit in our new breakfast nook. The one with the pretty windowseats!

Love, love the window seat with the beadboard. Just love it. Anyway, SuperGuy made me this farmhouse table just for that space.

It’s pretty, too, isn’t it? He made it out of pine because I’m going to paint it. See the pretty tapered legs he made?

It turned out so nice! Oh, in case you were under the impression that he ever cleaned up his messy garage? Let me dissuade you of that silly notion! (oh, my gosh, that link to the messy garage post…it was from 2008, just saying….)

Sorry, got a bit distracted there for a moment. I have heard rumors that his woodworking junk stuff things are headed to the new place, so I’ll actually, you know, be able to park in the garage. What a concept!

Sorry, distracted again… Anyway, I love the little details on this table. I know that no one will ever see how cute this looks where he put the side supports together. But I just love it. So, of course I took a photo of it to share.

He rounded the edges of the table. Nice little details.

Then we moved the table over to the garage at The Love Nest. It sits here patiently waiting for me to paint it.farmhouse table in garage

But, I admit, I’m scared I’ll mess it up. It’s so pretty… I bought this Annie Sloan paint to paint the table. It’s a similar color to the teal we chose in The Great Teal Debate.

Florence Chalk Paint

Anyone ever use chalk paint? Its supposed to cover anything without priming. I’m hoping a bit of the knot holes and imperfections will still show through. After the teal color, I hope to paint white over it, then distress some areas down to the teal. Wish me luck…

Kitchen Inspiration Piece

by Kay~Kacey on 8/13/2012

Ah, yes. It was time to pick a kitchen inspiration piece for my new kitchen. So, since my red kitchenaid mixer is my inspiration piece in St. Louis…I thought it was only fitting to use a kitchenaid mixer for my inspiration piece at our new home too.

Ta da! My ice blue Kitchenaid stand mixer. Don’t you love it??

It varies a bit more green, or a bit more blue depending on the light. So, of course, I’m going to use shades of teal for my accent color in my kitchen. The cabinets are white and the counter is black. This is going to pop so nicely against the black countertop!

I already have a lot of teal dishes. I love teal.

I can’t wait to get more teal/aqua/turquoise dishes and towels and accent pieces for the great room that is right off the kitchen. What fun!

Oh…and I’m not totally sure on this…but I think we’re going to paint my office…which is right off the great room through glass french doors…a deep, dark shade of teal. SuperGuy swears if it’s too much he’ll repaint or put up beadboard partway up the walls in my office if the teal is too intense.

I’ll share paint colors soon and you can either agree with SuperGuy, or shoot him down…
