New House Construction

Custom Cherry Countertop

by Kay~Kacey on 10/12/2012

Okay, more construction photos! The cherry countertop we had made for the kitchen island is finished. Isn’t the wood pretty?

Actually, it was finished last week during the wedding craziness…so we had to make a quick run over to Columbia to deliver it. So, of course, to make it more complicated, SuperGuy rented a uhaul and brought over all his wood working equipment too. Because it appears we’re unable to ever do things the easy way.

Longer story…SuperGuy was going to make this countertop, ’cause, you know–he loves doing wood working. Picked out the wood. The wood guy dried the wood in his kiln and by the time it was dry, it was too late for SuperGuy to have time to make it. So, we had it made by the wood guy. SuperGuy was pretty disappointed that he didn’t get to make it.

SuperGuy will have to put another few coats of finish on it, but it looks so great!

Next post will be all about the chandeliers!!! So excited!!

It is getting really exciting!! Look at my teal office!

After all that teal anguish, I seriously love and adore the color and I love and adore my window seat!!! Yay for teal! Yay for…well…everything! And look at my pretty kitchen backsplash!

There is where SuperGuy’s new gas stovetop will be. My cute tile backsplash will look great behind it, won’t it??

In other news…we also got the deck put on! Here is SuperGuy relaxing…

Here is a picture of how the back of the house looks now. See all that dirt? Well, the next day we seeded all of that and strawed it! Color me exhausted!

Here’s a sunset view from the side of the brand new deck…see, it still has sawdust! We had to have the contractor put the spindles a bit closer together than code called for so that the mischievous puppies couldn’t get through them!!

This is how we spent our first evening on the new deck…

I know! It’s getting exciting! We’re getting so close!

New House Construction Update

by Kay~Kacey on 9/17/2012

We just got back from a short vacation in Estes Park with my sister and brother-in-law…and the first thing we did when we got back is go out to see the new house, of course. Since so many people have bugged me for new photos of the progress–you know who you are… 😉  I thought I’d update with construction photos before I show vacation photos.

So they got some of the tile work finished while we were gone…along with the trim around the fireplace and the mantel. Isn’t it pretty??

The kitchen cabinets are in and part of the countertop. We’re having a cherry countertop made for the island. SuperGuy was going to make it, but he ran out of time. We picked out some old fashioned glass for that glass front cabinet. The kind with blips and a few bubbles in it.

Next up? My beloved pantry! Isn’t it great?? Look at all that storage space. It has a small counter in it too (covered with cardboard in this photo) for our coffee maker, toaster, etc. We only had them build in one side of the pantry for now. I want to live in the house for a bit, before we figure out what to do with the other side and what we want to store in there. So SuperGuy will build out the other side for me.

Here you can see that the pantry is right off the kitchen. Sigh. A big pantry, can it get any better than that??

They trimmed out around the windows too. Not painted yet, and the crown moulding should go up this week, but it looks so pretty!

They tiled around my jetted tub and our master bath shower. So nice!!tile around bathtub

Oh, and let me show off my interior doors. I just love them. Different than the normal 4 or 6 white panel doors. The double doors…interior doors

…and the single door.  I just love the beadb0ard appearance and the rounded top panel. They’ll get painted this next week…or the next. Yay!

Okay, there is the new house construction update! I’m getting excited. It keeps getting closer and closer to completion! We’re going to have a moving party…anyone want to come to it?? They’ll be lots of boxes and furniture…and beer 😉
