so in surfing around today (while solving a kid crisis, so my ability to write was hugely hampered by a bazillion phone calls) I found some interesting articles on author blogs. Well, first off, everyone sure has an opinion 🙂 and the opinions sure don’t agree:
This piece talks about Jennifer Weiner, author of the best-selling novel “Good in Bed” blog. Her views on blogging. Interesting reading. See Jennifer’s Blog here.
The article also shares this Viking Penguin editor’s view “executive editor Pamela Dorman says she encourages blogs ‘as a very targeted and effective way to increase word of mouth.’ However, she adds that it’s too soon to know if blogs help sales”
Though she also says ” In general, blogs don’t make a lot of sense for literary fiction authors,” Dorman says. ‘Their audience is more accustomed to seeking information through reviews and traditional media.'”
The article also quoted M J Rose “”A blog can’t be a promotional tool first. It has to be rooted in a subject the author cares about, is interested in, and has something to say about,” she wrote in her own blog, which started in August and focuses on the marketing of books. ”
Here scroll down to Lindsay Robertson and see what blogging did for her. The other snippets about the other bloggers are an interesting read too.
Suzanne McMinn wrote about what is annoying in an author’s blog..or anyone’s for that matter on Romancing the Blog. Her own blog can be found here. Quite a humorous view of the writing life.
okay, enough procrastinating. Must get back to revisions.
I very much enjoyed Suzanne’s “what is annoying in an author’s blog”
