The Best Kind of Relatives

by Kay~Kacey on 5/13/2008

So, I was thinking. I know, I know, but I was. What are the best kind of relatives to have? Well, I don’t really mean what KIND of relatives…I mean…what are the best careers or jobs for your relatives to have? It would always be nice to have a lawyer, a doctor, and a cop in the family. That would kind of take care of most things, now wouldn’t it? 😉

I, for one, have a sister and brother-in-law who own a wine shop. Now THAT is a good thing to be related too

Especially given my tendency to empty my wine glass all over my keyboards… 🙄

I have a geeky son who can fix computers (though I’m not much of a slouch in that area myself), and a son who is a bartender and can make the best margarita in the world. No, I’m not kidding, he does.

So who is your handiest relative/what do they do? What kind of relative do you wish you had??

I have a cousin who’s a hairdresser–that’s pretty damn good! And I’d like a carpenter in the family, that could work.

Ok, heading to your place NOW for a margarita. I’m not kidding.

My Squazz is a retired detective. Now, that’s handy

My soon-to-be-graduate son can fix or install anything. I’m going to miss him so much when he goes to college.

I LOVE that photo! You are so talented.

Most of the guys in the family are good with tools of most kind. That’s good when the autos need to be repaired. I have friends and family good with computers, police officers, insurance and employment issues. Wish I had a lawyer.

I would like to have all kinds of carpentry and plumbing relatives. And a vet. And a mechanic. and— LOL.

I love the fact that my sister is a CEO of a bank. That really comes in handy sometimes. Also my ex is a mechanic which is nice for my Princess. I wish I had a doctor in the family though.

Ha! Can we count people that are as close as relatives? 🙂 My husband’s best friend is a doctor, (he delivered our 3rd child) My best friends, one is a gardener and has the gift of hospitality so we get good food and beautiful flowers, the other is a nurse and a gardener so we get tender care and flowers, now to the real relatives…A brother who’s a pastor (he answers the tough theological questions I have) a brother who’s a carpenter, a sister who’s a financial planner(she always pays when we go out), a brother who is an event planner (we have some great parties), A husband who’s a Pharmacist and likes to formulate things like beer 🙂 Have a great week…

Interesting question … ya know… I don’t have anyone handy in my family.

My Grandpa helped me out once a long time ago with the IRS. I do have a cousin who is a doc (but he lives too far away) and a cousin who is a lawyer (but wrong field to ever be useful when I need legal help).

I wished we had a dentist, a doc, a midwife, and lawyer in our family. But relatives who were actually WILLING to help out when a relative was in need…

My hubby can repair anything. He was a mechanic in the military so we NEVER take our car to the shop and now he is in construction and can build almost anything. My mom is a seamstress and does all of my tailoring. I wish I was related to a maid.

My best relative has to be my son. He’s a general contractor who also will mow my yard and spray my house for bugs and when he gets finished, does a mean bar-b-que while talking like Julia Child.

He’s the best.

What we have: lawyer, accountant, teacher, computer guy, artist, engineer

What it would be nice to have: carpenter, plumber, masseuse, trainer, fashion designer, beautician, chef, housekeeper…..

Doctor relatives are very handy for sore throats and other minor medical complaints. And my side of the family rejoiced when I married a computer guy. I wish we had an accountant or a contractor though. Now that would be handy. I like Amy’s suggestion of a chef too.

some of these suggestions are great!

Hairdresser, definitely. A mechanic, good choice. Dentist, have one of those in the family. Chef ! Housekeeper !! Have an accountant, that’d be me.

I think we all need larger families to incorporate all our needs 😉
