Soccer, Males, and life…

by Kay~Kacey on 5/14/2005

So, who dreams up soccer tournaments? Those evil events that take at least a full weekend. I know the schedules are made out by males…because it’s inevitable the games are like 2 1/2 hours apart… a 45 minute drive away…so no time to go home, but a hell of a long time to kill waiting for the next game.

Which brings me to…why do they play the games in the pouring down rain? The parents stand out there like idiots huddled under umbrellas. The kids slide all over in the mud. They get hurt. They get muddy. They put their muddy litte butts in your car for the ride home.

And one other thing…are these males that make out the schedules unable to comprehend that if they change the schedule at the last minute…that just maybe it might effect a whole heck of a lot of people? The kids, their siblings playing in other sports, the parents, the pre arranged carpools carefully arranged for said siblings sport’s conflicts??

I adore my kids. Will always go to their games. But the day the youngest plays his last soccer game will be a happy day in my household. I will not miss it a bit.

Ah, so it was a good day then? :crazy2:

My older son is 5 and just started playing soccer. He loves it now but based on your story and others, I wouldn’t be sad if he doesn’t love it next year.

LOL, I so related to this story. I have stood many a long day in the rain watching soccer …

My kids aren’t old enough. Nanner, nanner, nanner…

Michelle, be kind 😉 But in 3 more years when I’m all FINISHED with this… you’ll just be STARTING and I’ll be laughing my butt off

Kacey, you make me so glad my kids are all grown up. No more standing in the rain, no more 5 am. practices, no more tournaments of any kind.

This is why we encourage music. Concerts are always Inside! Where you can read while they play and sing.:book:

AYSO= All of Your Saturdays Over.

My kids both play soccer and while I don’t mind the sport, I’m not big on the organization. We just registered for the fall and for the first time in five years, neither one of us volunteered. We both coached our own teams last year and it was a nightmare experience. I better stop now before I burst into tears about the situation.

Rene May 15, 2005 at 9:35 am

I mean to say my husband and I are neither one volunteering and we both had teams last year.

You make me glad I don’t have kids.

I’m so with you on that!!!!!!! :wallbash:

I NEVER volunteer! My sons have played soccer which I loved but we aren’t at the age they do tournaments yet. My oldest has discovered basketball–INSIDE SPORT but my youngest wants to try baseball this summer :coffee: BORINGGGGGG I’m so not looking forward to it. I hope he goes back to basketball.

I’m so happy we have an empty nest.
