Brainstorming

by Kacey on 4/5/2006

okay, following on with my thoughts. Walking on a beach is great for brainstorming! You can daydream about your book. You can daydream about your future and what you want it to be. Similar to Amy’s driving a car is great for brainstorming theory.

I’m a GREAT believer in driving and brainstorming. Do some of my best brainstorming when I drive. ( And I don’t always have a beach to walk on  )

I have decided that I should be able to go to the beach a couple of times of year just to walk along the beach and stare at the waves and brainstorm and think. Do some creative visualization. Mindlessly pick up shells. Brainstorm some more. Not sure how to break that news to my dh though…

Where do you do your best brainstorming? Out walking? In the tub (that’s a good one for me too). In the morning? In the middle of the night :biteme: (where is my damn pen!! )

I do my best brainstorming when I’m soaking in the tub reading a book. It seems to free up the muse. A word or a thought or an emotion can trigger something in my brain, resulting in an idea, a scene, a section of dialogue and a waterlogged notebook. I also get ideas on my power walk but then I have to repeat them over and over again until I get home so I don’t forget them.

I too get ideas walking. When I get on the treadmill, I make sure there is paper or notecards nearby—I can step off, jot a note and get back on!
I would LOVE to be able to walk the beach for inspiration–I’m sure I’ve mentioned my desire to live by the water–but there aren’t many beaches in Kansas so I’ll have to daydream about that, too!:cool2:

Believe it or not, my best brainstorming comes when I am mopping the floor. I don’t know why, but it does. Driving works too.

Depends…sometimes on the long car drives home, sometimes in the shower, sometimes while walking my dog. The last is my favorite because I’m gettin exercise and working at the same time.

I honestly don’t know. I haven’t noticed a pattern. Maybe next time I’ll pay attention to what I’m doing. In general, I think it’s when my mind is blessedly blank, that’s when the ideas flow.

I brainstorm while at the gym – unfortunately it’s not easy to record my thoughts while sweating it out on the treadmill/eliptical trainer  Sometimes my hubby helps me out – much easier to take notes while talking with him :-)

Driving is good. Hot showers are better. And oddly enough, milking the cow.

I usually get my best ideas when I’m just about to fall asleep, not the best for staying in bed and getting rest. Consequently, I usually have my laptop on my headboard so I can grab it if an idea is just too good to let go. The soft light doesn’t bother hubby and he’s very understanding. I also get good ideas often when I’m swimming laps at the pool. It must have something to do with emptying the mind and letting the good stuff in. :-)

Well, the car like I said before, but also the shower. And when I turn out the light to sleep at night. Sleep? Suuuuure. :cursing:
