In Search of the Perfect Cup of Coffee

by Kay~Kacey on 1/6/2009

SuperGuy and I are always on a quest for the perfect cup of coffee. There’s not a lot that SuperGuy and I disagree on in life…but coffee is one biggie. We both love it. Just not the same kind. The problem? His perfect cup and my perfect cup are NEVER the same. He likes strong, dark, acid-y cups of coffee. I like flavorful strong coffee…but no bitter taste or acid. I like an occasional flavored cup of coffee…like french vanilla or cinnamon nut. He hates flavored coffee. He’d loves espresso. Me, not so much. So our pots of coffee are a constant struggle.

So we finally succumbed to the single cup coffee maker.

keurig coffeemaker

We bought a Keurig coffee maker. I get the coffee I like. He gets the coffee he likes. We’re just now experimenting with the different types of coffee available for this machine. Do any of you use one of these? Have you found a cheaper place to order the k-cups from?

The one thing I’m not liking is the plastic cup waste dumping into the landfills. (each k-cup premeasured cup/filter thingie is plastic) We drink a lot of coffee. That’s a lot of plastic. I’m going to buy the reusable basket/filter for it…whenever they come back in stock anywhere. Then I’ll stock up on fresh coffee from the coffee shop…but we each can have our own kind of coffee…without meeting halfway on a pot of coffee where neither of us is really happy.

In other news, but related, look what I got in my stocking!

coffee warmer

A coffee warmer. Now my coffee stays hot while I do my morning blog hopping. Life is complete!

Are you a coffee drinker in the morning? Tea? Soda? Have you found the ultimate coffee? Come share!

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee is intoxicating, but I can’t stomach the taste. I’ve tried it flavored, creamed, sugared, frothed, pressed, and expensive…still I hate the taste. Doughboy prefers Starbuck’s flavored whole bean and grinds it fresh before brewing. I’m a diet Pepsi girl. Doughboy enjoys a hearty breakfast and coffee to start his day. I prefer a can of milk chocolate Slimfast blended with ice to hold me until lunch. Thank goodness we agree on the big stuff.

I can’t stand the aroma of coffee let alone the taste of it. I’m a hot chocolate drinker.

My Hunny and I are both coffee drinkers and like the same thing – non-flavored and strong. Otherwise, not too picky. If you hadn’t already invested in your single cupper, I’d have suggested a French press mug for each of you. No landfill issues. The mug is also the pot. Lookit:

Flea, we have a french press too…but I never really liked it. I think it leaves too much of the acid/bitter flavor of coffee. And since we only have one french press…we have the same problem…not agreeing on the kind of coffee we each like. Those travel mug french press cups are interesting though.

I order my k-cups from coffeecow.com. Great selection! :coffee2:

That coffee warmer is cool!!

Becky January 6, 2009 at 8:59 am

Can’t help you with your quest for the perfect cup of coffee. Or any of the things you need for your new brewer.
I love the smell of coffee, but don’t like the taste.
I prefer my caffeine cold, in soda.

Usually tea – usually darjeeling, unless my coffee-addict daughter is here, and then I might have a cup of very milky coffee with her. With vanilla. She stirs in my milk with a vanilla bean and it tastes soooo goooood!

I am a tea drinker…but I would love one of those mug warmers!

Coffee awaits me every morning and beckons to get out of bed and enter the kitchen. I have promised myself to give up the flavored coffee creams (don’t need the sugar) and as soon as my favorite creamer is gone, there will be no more.
Once, a very, very long time ago, I gave up sugar in my coffee. Done. Never went back. For some reason when I drink tea though, I add sugar. Crazy, I know.

Treasia/TruckersWife January 6, 2009 at 10:19 am

I love the smell of coffee when I first wake up each morning. I love it even better when Trucker is always the first one up to make it. For us the perfect cup is Folgers, and only half the scoops of the amt of water. another words 12 cups, 6 scoops of coffee. Then I have to have my 2 teaspoons of sugar followed by a big dollup of Bailey’s.

I love the smell of coffee – but can’t stand the taste! I’m a soda drinker in the morning. Bad, I know. 🙄

I believe coffee is the ancient word for “breath of life.” We are a latte drinkin’ family and have a fully automated espresso machine. I like more milk in my morning cuppa than the hubs, but we’re pretty much latte all the way.

I have coffee before I do ANYTHING else, and I steam my milk so hot the whole thing stays warm until I’m done blog-hopping.

There must be some confluence of thought flowing through the universe because I JUST blogged yesterday about MY espresso machine!

I’m a Diet Coke girl all the way. I hate coffee. No matter what it tastes like. *g*

Fi January 6, 2009 at 4:30 pm

I adore coffee – and alter the taste to suit my mood. Sometimes strong and dark, sometimes a latte..
but I hate it bitter or burnt so finding a good barista is hard.

At home i use a plunger…

My main issue at home is distraction and forgetting to drink it until it is too cold- so I WANT THAT WARMER!!!

🙂

My day does not begin until I consume a triple espresso with hot soy milk and sugar. I drink coffee once a day and its every morning, first thing, no matter what. When I am traveling, the stove top espresso goes along. Unfortunately, the addiction is so consuming that even on the weekends I am up at 4:30am for my fix………sick, really sick. Dont mess with my coffee routine….you could get hurt, addiction is a terrible thing! 😈

Deb. January 6, 2009 at 6:35 pm

I get to work around 6 am and crack open my first diet coke. Then I get a cup of coffee. I’m a two fisted drinker! Only the flavored stuff for me, love french vanilla and santas white christmas which is ordered online through Barnies. Weird though, I only drink one mug and only at work. Then its diet coke all day long and on the weekends.

I enjoy a big o’ pot of Gevalia’s Traditional Roast every morning. It really hits the spot. :coffee2:

Kate January 6, 2009 at 9:01 pm

I, Love. Coffee.
Love the smell when I awake, love the taste with half & half, love feeling the hot mug in my hands, love sitting around drinking it.
Cool warming plate.
We have the Keurig at school! It’s great. Nice post.

Amy January 6, 2009 at 9:10 pm

I usually have a couple of cups of Folger’s Half Caff in the morning before work. In the office, we serve Bad Ass Coffee, a great kona roast. My all time fave, though, is Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee … yum.

Chere January 6, 2009 at 9:30 pm

My husband and I both love coffee. I am the one who makes it though. He will make it sometimes at our house in Fla. I really like the Dunkin Donuts reg grind coffee. I normally have about 3-4 cups every day. :coffee2:

Flea January 6, 2009 at 9:40 pm

I didn’t really appreciate a strong cup until I got the press, and then I had to work up to it. Now anything less is mud. Sorry. For some reason it took me forever to realize that filtered water made a huge difference, too. Doh! :coffee2:

Sandra January 18, 2009 at 12:13 pm

I get up at 5 a.m. and make my dunkin donut coffee. I love it, or maybe I just love the fact that I’m retired and I can sit there and drink my coffee, watch the news and read the newspaper at my leisure, unlike my working days. :coffee:
