Mississippi Road Trip

by Kay~Kacey on 3/3/2010

Now don’t be trash talkin’ my Mississippi, ’cause we used to have this cute little farm there in Carriere, Mississippi…right out of Picayune 😀 But I still thought I’d share some thoughts of a road trip in Mississippi. We took highway 55 the length of the state.

mississippi-5732We have fond memories of driving through Mississippi with all the boys in the car, going back and forth from Mississippi or on our trips to Gulf Shores. Like the first time my oldest glanced up at this road sign and said “WHAT did that say???”  Yep, at a quick glance it DOES look like it says that, doesn’t it??

Or when we drive past this and one of the boys is sure to nudge his brother and say “what does that remind you of?” Ah, boys will be boys.

mississippi-5752

The mistletoe grows wild in the trees there, gathering in big clumps on the now bare branches. I think SuperGuy should have stopped the car and kissed me under this tree, don’t you?? :love2: What a waste of all the mistletoe!

mississippi-5748 ..and I’m not trash talkin’ Mississippi here…but seriously…all their rest areas were closed. The entire length of the state.

mississippi-5750

Every. One. What is up with that?? It got to be a joke with us…luckily the car needed gas so SuperGuy finally gave me a bathroom break!

mississippi-5745

We pass by our town. Pickens!! not  Yazoo City!! Silly people!!

mississippi-5757

Seriously? Foreign Trade Zone?? Who do they consider foreign? Arkansas??

You drive along for miles with the tall “pahnz” along side the road. (we call them pines up north…) Very pretty. Notice the definite lack of snow on the ground. Even prettier! We love Mississippi with the slower life style, the kind people, the cute accents. Sigh.

Well, there you have it. It’s not every day that you get to read a travelogue of a road trip through Mississippi. You heard it here first, folks!

I Heart New Orleans

by Kay~Kacey on 3/1/2010

or Nawlins, depending on who’s talkin’ We drove down to New Orleans to catch a cruise from the New Orleans port. It’s about a 10 1/2 hour drive for us. Very doable since you know how SuperGuy and I love road trips.

New-Orleans-4260

I love New Orleans. It’s such a mix of the old and the new.

New-Orleans-5687

Struggling to recover from Katrina.

New-Orleans-4300

Ah, Cafe Du Monde beignets. They’re not just for breakfast anymore!! (ask me how I know…no, don’t! Especially don’t ask me how many I had to eat while in New Orleans a mere two days…)

New-Orleans-4308Quaint street lights around the French Quarter.

New-Orleans-4317

Trolley cars running from the Quarter to the Garden District. (No, I was not trying to kill SuperGuy here…the trolley had already passed us.) Note the jacket AND sweater. It was a bit chilly that day.

New-Orleans-4286You have to be careful of the killer crayfish though! (or do you think that’s a lobster? Nah, a crayfish.)

New-Orleans-4323My favorite hotel, the Monteleone. (which we didn’t stay at this time because I couldn’t find a deal for it and it’s $$$. We stayed at The Iberville Suites, which were very nice.) We did manage to hit the bar at the Monteleone for martinis though. They have a rotating, circular bar where you look out on the street. Very nice.

New-Orleans-4329Ah, and my beloved Abita beer. Lots of it. A small, local brewery down there with The. Best. Beer. Period.

Sunrise over the Mississippi. Beautiful, isn’t it? Did I mention that I big puffy heart New Orleans?

Tomorrow, scenes from the cruise on the Carnival Triumph.

Remember the Bull-Part Two

by Kay~Kacey on 1/15/2010

Remember the yard decoration post I showed you? The bull in someone’s yard?

Oh, here, I’ll show you again!

Then I showed you the ferris wheel and tilt-a-whirl they have in their yard too!

Well, now that the leaves are all gone….look what we found right across the highway from the bull!

old-roller-coaster-3840

Seriously? Who has an abandoned roller coaster in their yard?? I would have to assume that the guy owns property on both sides of the highway…otherwise it’s a HUGE coincidence that owners on both sides of the road are into carnival rides. Old ones. Abandoned ones.

This spring (when it’s warm!) I’m going to make SuperGuy get off on the outer road so I can get some good shots of this! We seriously see some of the strangest things on our road trips. Feel free to leave a comment about the weirdest sight you’ve seen on your road trips!
