First Indigo Buntings of the Season

by Kacey on 5/16/2011

My beloved indigo buntings have returned.

indigo bunting in spring in St. Louis

Isn’t he cute sitting out there in the rain? I saw the first one and screamed, jumped up to get my camera…and, of course, scared it away. I was patient after that. Stalked the window.

I was rewarded. More indigo bunting posing. Then it turned dark and dreary for the rest of the weekend. I’m hoping for sun today to get some more shots before they move on.

I do not know why these cute little birds thrill me so much when they come to the midwest for their few weeks in the spring. But they do. I’d love to get a shot of a feeder full of them again. I must be patient… (Oh, quit laughing, you who know me so well… I am SO a patient person…really…)

The New Bird Feeder

by Kacey on 4/8/2011

Ah, yes. No house would be complete without a bird feeder! At least not a house of mine! It finally thawed enough for SuperGuy to dig a hole for the feeder post.

digging the hole for the feeder postFirst step was finding out who he loaned the post hole digger to…   I helped a lot with the digging stage. “A little more to the left. No, too far. Now come forward about a foot. No, not there!”

putting the bird feeder

He got the post just the right height.

Then he rigged up the squirrel preventer thingie that slides onto the post to keep the squirrels away. Kind of.

And here we are…just waiting for some birds to find it…

Just add birds and camera and I’m all set to go.
