Ask Kacey-Answers

by Kay~Kacey on 2/2/2009

Okay, I’m hard at work doing the post for the January Photo of the Month Contest. I’ll have it up tomorrow, Tuesday! For sure. I promise. Cross my heart. That post takes a bunch of time each month, but I so love doing it. Just wait until you see all the gorgeous cold photos!

Anyway, I’m taking today to answer some of the questions asked on my Ask Kacey post. Whee!!! Won’t this be fun?? Okay, then stop me if you get bored… :blah: :blah:

Kate: Hmmm. So where did you and Super Guy meet? And was it love at first sight?

Well, we met right here.

fence fixing

At the exact sight of the Great Fence Fixing. Honest. Right in my backyard. But the full story would be a full blog post or two, I think. I’ll regale you with that story soon! (I’ll have to ask him if it was love at first sight for him…)

Becky: What else do you write, besides your blog?

Everything  I wrote short stories and poetry when I was young. I branched out to novel writing. None have sold, alas, but that doesn’t keep me from trying. I’ve written romance, suspense, a historical that will never see the light of day again, and right now I’m working on a single title book. I guess it would be classified as women’s fiction. This one isn’t a romance, but it does have some romance in it. Yes, I know. I’m just a romantic at heart. I’ve also done some technical writing for a book on Dreamweaver, and in a day job in the distant past.

Amy: Real question: How are you and SuperGuy able to travel so much?

We work hard when we’re not traveling 😆 I don’t know. It does seem like we’ve traveled a lot in the last few years. We’ve done spring break with the boys the last 3 or 4 years. (not this year though 🙁 ) We go to Lake of the Ozarks for long weekends in the summer. My parent’s have a place there. We really try and do one vacation a year, just SuperGuy and I. But that doesn’t always work out. This year my parents’ needed their car driven out to Palm Desert, so we incorporated that, and a wedding in Houston, into our vacation. We try to go some place with my parents’ each year too, because it’s so much easier on them if we travel with them and do all the “stuff.”

Mental P. Mama: How long have you and Super Guy been married? And was it hard blending all those boys together?

We’ve been married 11 years. Practically newlyweds, don’t you think?? The blending? The boys all got along great from the start. (thank goodness!) They are all five boy/boys. Sports players, slightly techy geeky-each in their own way, mischievous 😯 We’re very lucky that it worked out so well.

Deb: I understand you have a “love nest” and a home. Why?

SuperGuy works over in Columbia, Missouri quite a few days a month. We have an apartment over there to stay in when he’s working there. More info about The Love Nest. Or even more here.

MidwestMom: Are you near St. Louis? Can you share where you like to go antique shopping at?

I can give you Antique Malls near St. Louis! We’ve been to all of these St. Louis area antique malls. I think the St. Mary’s one might be my favorite. In Columbia there is The Market Place on Business Loop 70, and Artichoke Annie’s on Hwy 70, a couple of exits to the east of Columbia.

Cathy:No questions — Just another compliment on your great photography. Loved the birds in the snow — and thanks for the bright cheerful spring flowers. Exactly what I needed to see this wintry morning!

Gotta a love a woman who gives me compliments on my photos and calls them great! Thanks, Cathy! Come back anytime 😉

iPost:Ummmm… What advice would you give to a mom who has an 11…almost 12 year old and a 9…almost 10 year old. One boy, one girl.

Well, as we know, girls are foreign creatures to me…but I’d say take as many photos as humanly possible at each stage of their lives. I only wish I was into photography when my kids were little. Anyway, the time passes quickly. Then it’s on to the empty nest…quite an adjustment!

Flea:What was your favorite thing about raising a mess o’boys?

couch wrestling
The boy noise. Seriously. The rough-housing, laughter, teasing boy noise. Now, I fully admit, they talk a language I don’t always understand  like the car stuff goes right over my head, ’cause I’m SO not interested in it… Raising boys has been great fun and frustrating all at the same time. I’m very proud of the almost grown men they have all become though. When they aren’t busy driving me insane… :crazy2: I did mention they were all boy/boys, right?

Gayle: What lens do you use to shoot the birds with? (That sounds funny!) Do you use a tripod to get those shots so clear?

I use a Canon 70-200mm f4 L lens that has stabilization in it. Though I often use cheaper Tamron 28-300 3.5-6.3 Macro zoom lens we’ve had since film days. It’s a good all around travel lens. Which I happened to have on my camera this last snow storm because The Photography One has my Canon L lens right now. I rarely use a tripod.

TSAnnie: Have you ever thought of moving to Columbia permanently? I have!

No. When we move, it will be some place warm and sunny!

Annmarie: I often have trouble finding info about the current photo contest. Is there a place to go to for info instead of paging thru all the posts? Thanks. I love your photos & your blog.

Ann Marie has a good suggestion here! I’m going to add a page about the Photo of the Month contest, and link to it up in the menu bar when I redo the website.

Mary: My question: I think I read somewhere that you write romance novels? What are the titles, and where can we find them?

Haven’t had any published yet. Hasn’t kept me from continuing to try.

Deb: Does Super Guy have a single brother? Perhaps a Dashing Dude or a Manly Man?

Bummer. He has all sisters. 😉

shooting camera

There, that’s probably more than anyone ever wanted to know about me!

Thanks for answering my question, Kasey. And good luck in getting ALL of your books published!!!

Hi Kacey,
Your title is funny to me since I really did spill wine on my keyboard, a month after I bought my laptop. I did quite the shriek…

Treasia/TruckersWife February 2, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Thanks for sharing the answer and questions. I enjoyed reading it today. Now I must have the story on the meeting in the backyard.
