Speaking of my front door… (Nice lead in from yesterday’s post, yes?) So I have this “thing” by my front door. I’m not really sure what it is, but I like it.
(hm, similar to the Jessica Simpson commercial…was that for Satellite TV? Where she says “I totally don’t know what that means…but I want it.”) As another aside. Do you guys do that? Pick up a line from a commercial and run with it, over and over, until you get it out of your system?
But I digressed as usual…so back to the post…
It’s been on my front step for a few years now. It’s weird. A touch ugly. But I like it. I’m thinking MAYBE it’s supposed to hold a planter or pot? But then you couldn’t see the people’s faces…
So how about you? What kind of different and strange thing do you have sitting around your house? Or what “normal” item do you have that you’ve put to an unusual use?
That is a Mayan Circle of Friends you have.
Bear((( )))
Exactly, Bear Naked. And surprisingly enough, Kacey, I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME ONE. A friend gave it to us. I’ve never liked it, but I can’t throw it away because she gave it to us. It’s in my garage right now. I used it as a candle holder. But it is sort of ugly, isn’t it!!!!
Bear Naked, thanks for identifying what it is.
Kate, I canNOT believe you have the same one! Now take it out and put it by your door and people won’t be able to tell us apart… 🙂
It IS kind of ugly, isn’t it??
Oh, and okay, it’s a Mayan Circle of friends…but what IS it? What’s it supposed to be used for? Or does it have a use?
Hanging on my back deck I have a gargoyle that my daughter made in her elementary school art class. I’m attached to it and even though it’s kind of hideous, I like it.
I think it’s supposed to be a candle holder or hold incense, that’s what Amazon selling it for.
I have a small stuffed blue dragon sitting on my desk. Does that count?
Yes, it’s a Mayan Circle of Friends. I’ve given them as gifts. Most people place a candle in the center.
I have an end table a friend made and gave to me that was a cast-off piece of wrought iron furniture of some sort she picked up on trash day. She painted it a maroon color, bought a piece of glass for the top, and I have lovely table!
Yep, it’s a candle holder.
I use a terra cotta plant pot thing that a friend painted a picture on for me as a magazine holder, but that’s about it…
Not too weird…just an old handmade birdhouse “apartment”, two stories, 8 “doors”…sitting under an old tree stump in my perenial bed…Cottontails use it, see their little faces peeking out the “doors”
I have monkeys. Everywhere.
It would look good proping up a small pumpkin for fall too!
I have this candelabra sitting on my bathroom shelf that I picked up at a flea market for 10 bucks. It is so butt ugly it’s actually kind of cool. Oh and did I mention its has purple glass hanging all over it?
I LOVE Mental P’s comment!!
I have monkeys. Everywhere.
The circle of friends has a holder for a candle. So I am assuming it’s a candle holder. And Kacey, do you know what is completely and totally weird about you posting this today?
My friend that gave it to me? I never see her because she and my best friend, Warren, live in Biloxi where he runs a huge hotel and casino there. And they are here for the weekend. I just saw them both today over in New Jersey.
Weird, eh? I must look into this strange phenomena. I think I will do it with the aid of this little book here. Ah, yes. There it is . . . :book:
I have this peice of wood called (by my ex MIL-a gift from Alaska I think), a pine knob. Its been living on my dining room for many yrs. I think it is part of the stump? Kinda reminds me of the club bambam of the Flintstones carries.
We have lots of “odd” things sitting around our house for no reason but that they’ve “always” been there. The first thing I thought of is a rough cast brass cannon barrel with no carriage under it that laid on the floor of the entryway for years and was sort of used as a door stop….mostly it is something for me to trip over or stub my toe on. It is heavy! I’m looking at a foam “Yellow Submarine” sitting on the computer desk. Way too much weird stuff here! I’ll probably think of more now that you have me looking!
I, too, have one of those. My mother gave it to me as we left the US for a four year tour in Italy. She told me that whenever I felt down in the dumps to put a candle in the middle, light it, and my family would have their arms around me, just as the terra cotta people have their arms around each other.
Corny – yes. But, it got me through some blue days, and still does!
