Paradise Beach-Cozumel

by Kay~Kacey on 11/4/2008

The next port we went to on our cruise was Cozumel. Carnival had just reopened their pier that had been taken out previously by a hurricane. This one is supposed to withstand a category 5 hurricane. Hope it can. We docked to a bright, sunshiny, warm day.

cozumel

Our ship was the Carnival Fantasy, but you can see her sister ship, the Ecstasy was docked here too. (Digressing for a moment…I had a strange desire, wishing we were sailing on the Ecstasy, just because of its name. That’s wrong of me, isn’t it??) We willing posed for SuperGuy in a typical cruise ship in the background shot. (digressing again…wow, those pink crocs clash with my coral tshirt, don’t they? Why didn’t someone tell me???)

posing on pier

Oh, look! SuperGuy was there too! He’ll love that I got a shot of him carrying the floral beach bag… I’m detecting a trend of SuperGuy carrying bags… Wonder how long I can keep working the “Gosh, honey, that bag is just too heavy for little ‘ol me to carry.” …once he finds out I’m taking photos of it each time.

Anyway, we shopped a bit, then headed for Paradise Beach. No admission to get in, no charge for chairs or umbrellas. About a five minute cab ride from the pier. For $10 you get a wristband that lets you do lots of water sports. Water trampolines, a huge “iceberg” to climb. Or kayaking.

Notice how helpful The Adorable Girlfriend was with the paddling?

The Geeky One got even…The Adorable Girlfriend couldn’t figure out why is was so much harder paddling back into shore…

pointing

Oh, here’s a big surprise. A pointing picture!! or maybe :mad2: 🙄

beer on the beach

SuperGuy and I just kind of hung out on the beach and did our own thing. Not sure we moved from our lounge chairs once we sat down. “Freddie” kept bringing us ice cold beer though, so all was good.

We got back on the ship, arrived back at New Orleans, drove 11 hours back home.

A most perfect vacation. The end.

Carnival Fantasy Cruise

by Kay~Kacey on 11/3/2008

So, as you know, we’re home now…back to the land of fast internet…so I thought I’d show you some photos from our cruise. We really didn’t take that many photos this trip. Not sure what that says about the vacation. Maybe we were too busy having fun??

The cruise left from the New Orleans port. After a wonderful 80 degree day the day before we left, on the actual day of departure it was cold!

carnival fantasy lido deck

We started off, surprisingly 😉 by drinking and eating up on the Lido deck with our sweatshirts on against the crisp air. When SuperGuy wears a jacket, you know the weather is cold. When we checked in, we found they hadn’t seated us at the same table. 🙄 So SuperGuy and The Geeky One went to go sort all that out. We ended up with a four top table, at the back of the dining room, right by the window. Sweet. Had a great waiter too. We were seated next to a family of 10. Okay. The mom spent the entire meal yelling at her 3 year old son. You know, saying the same thing over and over and over…so of course the kid never listened to her. You know the type. The dad wore a wife beater shirt to dinner. Yes, you know the type here too. How special. After that meal they were never seen again…wonder who offed them?? :mad2: Wasn’t me!

We proceeded down the river, tilting steeply to the side. Strange. A bit later they announced we had broken down in the middle of the Mississippi. Yes, well. Nothing really stops us from having fun. We finished dinner and went to the nearest bar on the ship in my quest for the best martini.

In the middle of the night, the engines kicked into gear, and off we went, out to the ocean. (about a 6 or 8 hour trip down the Mississippi from New Orleans to the ocean. Who knew??)

daybreak at sea

So nice to wake up to a view like this from your bed, isn’t it?

Okay, so SuperGuy gets up early without me and goes up to the Lido buffet and has a “prebreakfast” 🙄 and he got this shot of the same sunrise. Yes, I know. He wins. (and it pains me to admit it!) Gorgeous clouds.

sunrise on cruise

The first day was spent at sea. The second day in Progresso, Mexico. I’m not sure how these small towns get the cruise lines to come to them. But this one you had to take a tour bus like 5 miles down the pier to even set foot on land. Let’s just say it wasn’t my favorite cruise port ever. We shopped in the open air market where they keep doing the “Hey, Lady, Look at this.” Anyway after some brief shopping where the Adorable Girlfriend picked up a few things (note to self, shop with Adorable Girlfriend next time, she found some neat things!) We then headed to the Ultimate Beach Party.  Not.

beach party

The beach was rocky, cold, and windy…and about 3 feet wide by 15 feet long. Ah, well, we made the best of it. It looked like they made this spot out of a ruined hotel? Because only the pool was still there and a hut with a grill and cold beer. So, of course we made the best of things, as is our wont.

A Bit of Cruise News

by Kay~Kacey on 11/1/2008

Having a wonderful time, thought the trip is drawing to an end. The internet connection is really too slow to upload many pictures, so I’ll bore you to death with them when we get home!

I will mention that in my never ending quest to jinx vacations…like hurricanes take out towns and such when we plan to go visit the area…our cruise ship broke down in the middle of the Mississippi. Seriously. They had to send anchor and send help. I thought if we had to be tug boated (is TOO a term) back to New Orleans, my family was going to refuse to ever let me plan another trip.

Anyway, they fixed the ship like 8 hours later and off we went to Progresso, Mexico…one of those cruise ports in the middle of nowhere with not much to see or do. Next time I’d stay on the ship and drink and maybe get a massage…

Went to Cozumel and had a great time. Shopped a bit then went to a beach where “Freddie” (I’m sure) brought us buckets of beer and plates of food while we just all did…nothing. Was really fun!

On the days at sea we just sit in the sun, drink buckets of beer  and people watch. Oh, and read. We’re all readers so that’s been fun. :book:

I’ve found the place with the coldest beer on the ship and the bartender who makes the best martini on the ship, so my mission is complete.

Which reminds me, I must finish this post, dear readers, because we’re about to go meet The Geeky One and The Adorable One for a quick martini before dinner. I’ll try and get this to post in the morning for you.

See you all stateside with photos soon!
