Nicknames you Love…or hate

by Kay~Kacey on 2/4/2008

So do you have a nickname for your husband, wife, significant other? I have a lot of nicknames for my dh. One is clearly indicated by this picture.
Big and Little Wine Glasses
So guess which wine glass is mine? Yep, the little one. I always get the little one. For some reason, my dh started calling me Little. So, of course, I call him Big. No, not THAT big. Not the one from Sex and the City. And, by the way, I started calling my husband BIG, before that Carrie person ever even discovered her Big. Copycat. And get your mind out of the gutter for any other meanings to BIG. I also call him Doc on occasion. Husband’OMine. Hero. Mr. FixIt. SuperGuy. Okay, okay, occasionally I call him Jerkface, but it’s said with a lotta love

Nicknames. Gotta love ’em. My nickname growing up in my family was QT. (as in cutie?). Not said with a lot of love 😉 Of course it could have been worse. My sister was Nakes, and my brother Gorilla.

I so love to hear about nicknames and how they came about–if you can even figure that out. Do you have nicknames for your husband? Boyfriend? Family members? Kids?

Did you have a nickname growing up, and do people still call you by that nickname, all these years later?

Yep, you lucked out in the nickname dept. When I was little, I was MT (my initials) or … EMPTY :wtf: As a teenager, my friends called me Mouse. No wonder I have issues now 😆

I love nicknames. I don’t really have any from childhood other than “Mich” (pronounced Mish)–one of my guy friends turned that into “Mishy,” but that’s all. Between P and me, we have secret nicknames. Nope. Not sharing 🙂

Hmm…..I’m sure I had nicknames, but the only one I can recall is being called Annly – my Swiss grandmother and great-grandmother added “ly” to all their loved one’s names, I suppose it was a Swiss endearment.
My sister, on the other hand had about a million nicknames (and I have always been VERY jealous!).
Let’s see….Care, Care-care, Care-Bear, Carrie Lou, Lou-Pooh, Pooh, Pooh-Bear, Loupy (that was my favorite!), Lou-Lou…………I’m sure you’re getting my drift. The girl had nicknames!

My husband and I call each other Squazz. I have no idea why or what it means. Sometimes to jazz it up, we say Squazzy. We’re just so clever that way.

Christine February 4, 2008 at 1:22 pm

DH is`always… honey. Yea, original, I know. He calls me dear. But on occasion we call each other Mr. Hogue and Mrs. Hogue. That started after watching “National Velvet” one day. Velvet’s parents called each other Mr. Brown & Mrs. Brown. My husband loves to tease about little things in movies and this stuck. 😆

My oldest daughter is “KaylaBear”. My youngest daughter is “Strawberry”. My son is “Little Man” or I’ll just call him “Handsome”.

Growing up, I was called Chrissy or Christy. I *hate* that nickname and now the only people who can get away with that are my parents and Grandfather. I had other nicknames but they weren’t nice (i.e. “Four Eyes”, etc.)

Country Girl February 4, 2008 at 1:40 pm

Sorry, no nicknames here. I just like using these little emoticons.

I’m easily amused, aren’t I?

:coffee2:

Bleeding Espresso, well, if we can’t coax the nicknames out of you, we can’t 😉

Annbb, wow, your sister DID have a lot of nicknames!!

MPM, you are clever that way. I love Squazzy.

Christine (and not Chrissy or Christy :mad2: ), Live the Mrs & Mrs. Hogue.

Country Girl, glad I can amuse you with the smilies… :coffee: :book: :blah:

Tori Lennox February 4, 2008 at 2:03 pm

I’m not sure that I ever really had nicknames as a kid. Well, some of my friends called me Vic (instead of Vicki). Then one started calling me Tori. That’s more of an alias now than a nickname, though. *g*

Amy February 4, 2008 at 3:41 pm

My nicknames growing up all had to do with my oh-so-poetic maiden name, Stumbo. Dumbo, Mumbo, Jumbo, Rumbo, etc.

I call one of my kids PandaMan because his name is Camden and he loves pandas.

My nicknames for my husband…hmm, mostly it’s Yo Hubby! Not very creative but at least it’s printable. 🙂

Christine February 4, 2008 at 4:03 pm

Wait a minute! Mrs. and Mrs. Hogue??? When did my husband have an operation???

Uh-oh… no smilies to poke at ya… 🙁

Kacey February 4, 2008 at 4:17 pm

Christine, LOL, just goes to show I should really grab those reading glasses before I type! Sorry to your dh

Amy, those are terrible nicknames! Stumbo, huh? Never knew that. Love the PandaMan nickname for Camden.

Misty Dawn February 4, 2008 at 5:08 pm

Heh – when I was growing up, my aunt called me ‘termite’… now, she calls me ‘rat’ – They’re both pests!!! What’s up with that???

I just wanted to drop by to inform you that you have a very, very special award waiting for you over at http://www.mistysmusings.com – I think you’ll really like it!

Amy February 4, 2008 at 6:29 pm

I love the photo! Beautiful.

A few friends call me Ames. My boyfriend calls me Gorgeous or Luscious (I think he only calls me Amy when he’s mad at me, which is rare). I really love “Mom,” though! Oh, and I’ll soon be “Gigi” when my granddaughter can speak.

Kacey February 4, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Misty, thanks so much for the award! That puppy shot is so cute!

Amy. I like the nickname Ames for Amy. Though I really like that your bf calls you Gorgeous or Luscious. Very great nicknames!

annbb February 4, 2008 at 8:58 pm

OMG! I totally forgot this until I read Amy’s comment about all her nicknames because of her last name.

Amy wrote: My nicknames growing up all had to do with my oh-so-poetic maiden name, Stumbo. Dumbo, Mumbo, Jumbo, Rumbo, etc.

I DID have a nickname or two. However, when you read what it was, you’ll know why I had selective amnesia the first time I posted here!

My maiden name was BUMgarner. I was known as Bum (Annie Bum to close friends) in high school……and then had the GREAT honor of having that changed to BUMMER (EVERYone, close and not so close called me that) all through college. O the joys of a redic maiden name!

My mom always called me Bubba. I don’t know why. I called my kids Bubba when they were babies. We call our youngest daughter Monkey Man. I don’t know why. I also call her Baby Love. My son is nicknamed Nerdboy. My other daughter is Princess or Diva. Hubby? Hmmm…can’t really think of anything.

colleen February 6, 2008 at 9:27 am

Colly dog from my brother Jim. And Colly Wolly Wolf from my dad.

Christy April 29, 2008 at 3:46 pm

My husband is Will and our last name starts with a “B”, therefore I call him Wilby, which some friends and my dad turned into Wilbur. Our rabbit’s name is Bunny which we call him bunbuns or Mr. Pooper. And our dog is Pele, which I turn into Peypey. No kids yet, thats why I listed the pets!

Christy April 29, 2008 at 3:49 pm

Kat November 2, 2009 at 12:40 pm

My name is Amy but i’ve never really liked it because all the nicknames for it aren’t very good.
My nickname Kat came about because i told my gran that i didn’t like the name Amy so she took Cat from my middle Catherine and swapped the C for a K and Voila. somehow she managed to convince the rest of my family to call me that and eventually my friends caught on and now i go by Kat
i also get called KK becuase my last name starts with a K.

Amy May 26, 2010 at 1:35 pm

Amz (pronounced aimz)
Amzy
Aim
Amzyboo

Ama
Ammmmmmmmm
