Fascination with all things Orange

by Kay~Kacey on 2/27/2008

I don’t know why I do this to myself. I think capturing shades of orange is so difficult. As you witnessed by my amaryllis that refused to be photographed.

But out here, the bright orange flowers call to me. So I snap and snap. Then I work on them in Photoshop. And I curse myself for trying to get these orange flowers captured just right. Why do so many flowers refuse to have their picture taken?? They hide their faces from me. They fight me. They are just difficult!

I do like the shadows in the center of the flower on this one.

Same kind of flower, different exposure. These flowers look almost paper thin.

Some kind of orange flower. I so don’t know my California flowers. This one grows on a bush.

These flowers are just gorgeous.

And SuperGuy keeps asking to use the camera

Any guesses on what color tomorrow will be???

Well, here is another orange thing I adore. And look… SuperGuy seems to have a Corona in the background there, now doesn’t he?? I think I might have one of those with my name on it…Bye for now…

Introducing Summer Weather

by Kay~Kacey on 2/26/2008

I give you summer weather. Green grass. Blooming flowers. Mountains. Blue skies. And a fabulous lack of snow or ice. I give you Palm Desert, California. Behold and enjoy.

I don’t know what it is, but I like it. It’s like a climbing hedge flower.

These are so bright, they almost hurt your eyes to look at them!

I’m out visiting my parents for a week. Gotta love parents who go some place warm for the winter. We left in a snow storm yesterday–along with delays for de-icing the plane. Then landed in this gorgeous wonderland. Well, someone has to do. Might as well be me.

SuperGuy keeps asking when he gets a turn at the camera…”when I’m finished with it, dear.”

Now, I wish people were not so greedy with their wireless out here. It’s hard to steal borrow it when they do stuff like encrypt their wireless connection  I keep losing the connection when the wind picks up too. I wander around the house trying to find the best spot. So as long as I keep finding a connection, I’ll be back with more pics tomorrow. Keep posting your winter pics if you want…I’ll just look and them and smile 😆

And if I had Country Girl’s macro lens, I’d be so much happier with all these colorful flowers!

The Magnificent Sideboard

by Kay~Kacey on 2/25/2008

or how to keep your wife very happy…

As you probably know by now, SuperGuy makes me things. I like a man who makes me things. He made this great server for our kitchen. Or Sideboard. Or buffet. A piece of furniture with a lot of names is a great piece of furniture, I always say. Though it does seem to give your furniture that kind of psycho split personality…
magnificent server

server top I love the splash of red on the top from the tiles he put on it. I love that it ties into my fifties diner type theme for my kitchen. (notice the cool kitchen table in the corner of the pic? We found that out antique shopping. I love to haunt antique shops. This table came with lime green chairs. Yeah, I know. I’m now out haunting shops for red chairs.)

See the cool tile top with the neato set in white tiles in the red tiles? Do you know how many new tools he HAD to buy to make this?? 🙄

server details
Notice the details here. Well, yes, now that you mention it, they DO match the trim on my doors and the side of my spice rack. He’s handy like that.

And this holds an incredible amount of stuff in it. There’s never enough cabinet space in a kitchen, now is there?

Honestly, I think woodworking is the coolest hobby. He has all these neat tools and machines and presto, I get something really nice like this. I’m gonna keep SuperGuy ’cause you never know what he might make next…
