Other Signs of Autumn

by Kay~Kacey on 11/30/2008

There are other signs of autumn around here. You know how I’m addicted to bird watching? Well, and taking photos of birds? Almost like Chronicles of a Country Girl, Kate, takes photos of mushrooms. Its just something we do.

Well, you remember my lovely finches? With their vibrant yellow colors?

Such a pretty yellow color!

Now they are back to a drab gray. Sigh. Yet another sign that summer is over and autumn is here. Well, at least the cardinals stay bright red all year long!

I think that’s one thing that depresses me about winter. The lack of bright colors. The flowers are gone. The green leaves and green grass are gone. My lovely finches turn gray. I think this winter we should have one of the photo of the month contests be a spot of bright color in the winter, what do you think? Sometimes it’s all just a needed attitude adjustment.

Holiday Traditions Part Seven

by Kay~Kacey on 11/29/2008

Okay, I’m not sure if I’d posted six other holiday traditions…but we sure have a lot of them. You know, like slinging shooting the Easter eggs? And the pointing pictures?

Yes, we have a few, okay, a LOT of traditions.

For Thanksgiving? It’s this turkey.

Thanksgiving centerpiece

What’s so special about this ceramic turkey? Well, it’s been on our table every year for about 40 years. Really. He looks innocent enough, doesn’t he?

Except he has a stuffed butt of flowers. 🙄 Doesn’t everyone have a stuffed turkey butt on their Thanksgiving table?

Thanksgiving table arrangement

We’ve had this poor turkey’s butt “filled” at the same florist every year. They expect us every year. People have seen it at the florist and tried to buy it. We now have our name written on the bottom, just in case. We might have to put a tracking device on it! 😉 The FLORIST has tried to buy it from us.

Nope, no way. It’s OUR turkey butt, thank you very much. Not. For. Sale. At any price.

Hope you all had a wonderful time, however you celebrated Thanksgiving. I sure did. I may never eat again. Well, except for one more small piece of pumpkin pie…

The Preparations Begin

by Kay~Kacey on 11/27/2008

I write this the night before Thanksgiving, wondering if Thanksgiving will be as much fun as the day before was. But as SuperGuy says “how can you not like a holiday that’s based on gluttony?”

There were lots of preparations for the big day.

silver polish

There was silver to be polished.

antique silverware

and here is a story in and of itself…we found this bundle of silverware packed in one of SuperGuy’s never unpacked boxes. It was old silverware. I unwrapped it and found a note tucked in it. It was a wedding present given to his grandparents and passed down to his dad, and now to him. And I never even knew he had it. Now we have enough good silverware to use for everyone without breaking out the everyday stuff. Very cool. (The silver chest underneath is my silver that I inherited from my Grandmother. So we have a lot of love going on our table!)

pies baking

There were pies to make and bake.

turkey

There were turkeys to be dressed out, and secrets explained to the next generation of cooks. Bless SuperGuy for frying the turkeys and keeping them out of my kitchen while I make the rest of the goodies!

chili cooking on stove

I made a big night before Thanksgiving pot of chili for the boys as they staggered their way into town for the holiday. I figured chili was an easy, don’t-mess-up-the-kitchen meal for the babies boys. Plus I can make tons of it to fill them up and hold them over for the Thanksgiving feast.

Kitty watching the cooking

Green, one of the kitties, supervised from his throne on the trashcan. Or maybe he was staying out of the way of all the males…I’m not sure 😉

chili dinner

The males seemed to enjoy their chili dinner.

pointing at the table

and did you really think all those males would get together and NOT do a pointing photo??? The jerkfaces.

I hope each of you have a fantastic Thanksgiving with all your love ones. I’m surrounded by males and loving every minute of it. Happy Thanksgiving! It’s a wonderful day to sit back and remind ourselves of everything we have to be thankful for.
