Nature that takes your breath away

by Kay~Kacey on 10/6/2008

I cannot believe how lucky I am sometimes. To live in my house, backing up to my woods. Where creatures like this come up and share their lives with me.

deer at bird feeder

Sneaking up to the base of the bird feeder to get the scattered seeds. I feel like I can almost reach out and touch this beautiful deer.

Deer in back yard

Then he looks up at me, wondering if I’m safe or a danger. Staring at me. Almost as if this brilliant creature can look into my soul.

Sometimes I think, in our hurry and bustle that is real life, we forget to appreciate the wonderful things in nature that surround us. So today, how about pausing for a moment in the rat race which is daily life, and look up at the sky. Listen to a bird, the crunch of a fallen leaf, the music of the wind in the trees. Stare up at the clouds and see what you can see in them. Take just a moment with me to appreciate the beauty that is nature.

The Menacing Deer

Remember when I said I wanted more babies?? Well, I got some turkey babies. BUT WAIT!!

Look!!!

Then Mama Deer saw me and they were gone…

So, as I think I said before, I live in a big city. In the suburbs. But I back up to a county park. So I have all this great wildlife right out my window. But some of the townships around us are having problems with the menacing deer. The deer are eating up home owner’s flowers. 🙄 Yes, I have that here, but it’s the price I pay for living close to the woods. Whatever. So one of the townships wants to allow HUNTING. In. The. Suburbs. Yes, that sounds like a great suggestion, doesn’t it?? Gun hunting. Bullets. Right.

Another suggestion is catch and release, but I understand the survival rate on that is terrible. Another suggestion is bow hunting. I don’t know the answer, because I do know the deer population has really grown and there are a lot of car accidents now with deer bounding across roads and getting hit. Damage to people, deer, and car. Wounded animals wondering around. Okay, I realize there is a problem…but can’t anyone come up with a sensible solution?? Well, more sensible than GUNS in the SUBURBS?

Chore List

“We” do lots of chores on the weekend. You know, it’s kind of like catch up time.

filling thistle feeder

“We” fill the far away thistle feeder.

“We” fill the close up thistle feeder. Which the impossible to photograph finches don’t hang out on.

filling the bird feeder

“We” fill the bird feeder where the cardinals hang out.

we get sidetracked

Then “we” get sidetracked. I mean HE gets sidetracked. Males ALWAYS get sidetracked when they do chores.

cute deer in backyard

So you know these cute little deer that provide me with so many photographic opportunities??

tulips as deer food

They did this to my tulips! SuperGuy was NOT amused. I suggested not putting out any more tulip bulbs in the backyard. :mad2:

daffodils and grape hyacinths

Thank goodness they don’t like the daffodils and grape hyacinths!! Who knew??
